A bit niche this one, but any thoughts on how to get hold of big washers? What I need are half a dozen washers to fix an, er, installation mistake, shall we say, or someone who can't use a ruler. Internal diameter anywhere from 63-73mm, OD at least 83mm. Stainless would be nice but plain steel, plastic etc. would be fine. I've done a bit of surfing and not come up with a lot, have you diverse and clever people got any ideas where such a thing might be found?

Yours clutchingly, Mr. Random from Doncaster

I'm not really sure they're washers at that point.

Just ring shaped metal components...

What are you even trying to do with them?

Glad somebody else finds this annoying, as a rule I don't correct people that much lol

+1, a flat area of 5mm wide is hardly a big area to use, as it's massively out of proportion, you won't find 'washers' this size.

It is gonna have to be as above, find a tube the right size and cut them off that.

A rule is a rule, a ruler is a ruler. Both are sticks used to measure. A rule doesn't have a gap at the end of the stick

And I thoguht I was pedantic. Ta for the replies, if you really must know....

We got someone in to refit our bathroom on the presumption that it would mean a good finish plus save me some time. In this case we were far from the truth. As the ceiling is quite low, we need zone whatever lights, which are in two parts, the main bit which clips into the ceiling and seals against the plaster with a rubber washer, and the front bezel, which screws on and seals with an O-ring. As you can probably guess, the back bit is smaller that the screw-on bezel. Our highly skilled tradesman cut holes in the ceiling the size of the bezel not the backing bit, so the lights are almost pulling themselves into the loft by the springs clips. It's a lath and plaster ceiling, and I'd have to try to fill a narrow ring around the outside of the too-large holes, which I can't see lasting long as the springs are very strong. I also gave up on asking to have it rectified (believe me this is not my style) as with other issues in the bathroom, we just got one mess to replace another (so all roads do indeed lead to Rome). So, my wife's idea is to get some washers (there are 6 lights) which will fit behind the body of each light and so make the hole smaller. If I can find them then it's an easy fix. Told you it was niche. Are you bored stiff yet?!

I fit bathrooms a lot, I can honestly say I've never done that in well over 100 bathrooms lol

Personally I think you are better off either getting a larger flanged spotlight or cutting some discs of plasterboard and fixing and skimming these in then recut the light in the correct size.

You can get bathroom rated spots quite cheaply, it will save loads of hassle and time if you find some a little bigger.

I've had to repair ceilings loads of times before using above method when there have been joists in the way or been marked out wrong.

We wondered about bigger spots, we have 6x50W jobbies which seems about the right amount of light, would need replacement ones to fit a hole about 80mm (or bigger I guess) and be suitable for the wettest zone (ceiling height is only just over 2m). Any thoughts?

Did you try that laser cutting site? 33bhp washers worked out about a fiver a pair

What is the diameter of the hole the fitter cut?

I'll look at my the stuff I normally use and see what might fit.

Bathroom lights have an ip rating as do exterior lights etc, if you look for them to be ip65 and above then you'll be fine.

I also know peeps who've had the standard spotlights in their bathrooms for over 10 years with zero problems so it's not as critical as they would have you believe, that said I always fit them as they aren't much difference in price.

See if they will do it from a drawing... do it like a porthole or something with 3 or 4 countersunk stainless bolts in there around the lamp might look alright :)

I'd be tempted to earth the plates though.

Specialone I think the holes are about 80mm but would have to check again, they're not very neat really. YC all I need is a few mm of metal extending further than the bezel (most of the problem is already hidden from view, though still needs resolving), so it'll most likely go unnoticed by most people anyway (as is the secret of good DIY!). I'll give them a call tomorrow and see how much they want
