Well, there's a first time for everything... and today was my first off..
Now I can hardly complain as I was incredibly lucky!
Was travelling along a main road, slow traffic coming the other way, car edged out of side street through traffic. I saw him and slowed down, saw him stop so continued slowly, then he for some unknown reason just came out. I hit the brakes, tried to swerve, but he was half way across my lane. The bike cleared him but the pannier clipped his headlights and flicked me off!
To my amazement there was absolutely minimal damage! The panniers took the brunt of the impact - a little bit scratched up. Bar end has a little mark on it, and my clutch lever is now less than an inch long!
However, not a single mark on the fairing / panels!
So unfortunate accident, but feel very lucky that the bike came out mostly unscathed!

Very lucky, glad to hear you are ok though :)
Hopefully it won't cost too much to sort your bike :)

I've taken it as an excuse to treat the bike to some new V-trec clutch and brake levers!
If I didn't have panniers on it would have been a much more expensive story!

I would have taken his details as the fact he stopped begs the question of did he see you then panic?
In any case, you could claim from him insurance...

It's really not worth it. The only damage was a few scratches on my luggage (not bothered about this) and the snapped clutch lever. It was only a cheap aftermarket lever so at most the replacement would have been £20.
I don't see the insurance route as viable unless the damage caused is over £500 min. It just kicks up premiums alot more than it's worth!
He was apparently being waived out by a taxi driver in the queued up traffic.
My luggage did do a pretty good job of smashing up his headlights though! Perhaps next time he'll think twice....

It's still his fault, he should cough up even if he just gives £50 or something rather than claim on his insurance. He should still observe around him even if the taxi had waved him across or not.

Alright, as long as you feel it isn't worth chasing up for anything then you can let it slide.
But, just because he is being waived out by someone does not obsolve them of blame for anything
Yeah i take it youve got his details for him to pay you cash?

The other party owes you cash at the very least.
Give it a day or two and check yourself over. Injuries aren't always obvious the day it happens.
How'd your gear fair up?

If he is in the wrong then it won't affect your premiums at all, i would've got his details tbh, you may find other damage after a few days that you have'nt noticed yet, better to have his details and not use them than need them and not have them.

I'm pretty sure that even notifying your insurance company that you've been involved in an accident ups your premiums. I had a friend who was involved in an incident, they told their insurance that there was an accident.. No claim ever went in after this from either insurance company yet their premium still increased as they were seen as more of a liability!
It was a very slow off, slightly bruised arm, but all gear was fine, didn't get scrapped along road at all. I had pretty much come to a complete stop when my luggage hit his headlights.

My car was sat on the drive when a tawt in a van reversed into it - my renewal still went up !!!

Non fault accidents SHOULD not increase your premium, test it both ways on the comparrison sites, I have and it didn't affect mine.

Id make a claim. If you dont you just might find the other party claims against you for a damaged headlight or a bit of whipcash. If you havnt gone through the correct process you will look guilty.
You can claim for the minor damage, and the scuffing/damage to your kit.
