View Full Version : Best rust treatment for my new bike trailer?
hi guys
so ive found a bike trailer locally that need a bit of TLC, (dont really need one but i know it will come in handy and a new little project for me! lol)
The guy says (and it looks like) only surface rust. which would be the best product/ process to use to treat it before i spary paint it black? and the best if its a tad more serious.
Been doing some reserch and theres sooo many on the market just want to have someone reccomend one which is a reasonable price.
cheers

for a trailer just take off the loose surface rust with a angle grinder wire wheel and paint it with hammerite. Its antirust and you can even paint over rust with it but if its loose enough it will just flake off
spraying it will end up costing a bomb
thanks wideboy!
Just googled it - i like all in ones! lol. and a litre pot is only £14 on ebay :)
Cheers for your help
I would hammerite also but before that use kurust to neutralize it. That will hopefully stop it continuining under the paint and will stop the need to repaint more often than you should. If the rust is major, it may not be economical to repair, couldnt say as i dont know how much you are looking to pay/ how much they are worth.

you dont need to with hammerite
Yeah i realise it says straight to rust on the tin but it cant hurt to spend an extra few quid to make sure youve done all you can to prolong the life of the metal and paint

Haha, yeah ended up with more than a few "red" frames; back in the day, that takes me back...
Use this first - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_16 7671_langId_-1_categoryId_165594#tab1
Then hammerite on top.
Bit belt and braces but had kept my land rover chassis rust free now for nearly 10 years and it was a mess.
Hammerite can chip off but with this underneath it don't matter.
