View Full Version : A break with tradition?

I'm currently looking for bike number two. Because, as we all know, the formula for the amount of bikes you need is the amount of bikes you have plus one.

So do I go for the 750 VFR or break with the tradition of this forum and go for a street triple?

What's bike #1?
My theory is, you should have bikes that are different in character and purpose.

I've had lots of fun on Speed Triples (never owned one) and don't know of bad things about them... What's wrong with the Street Triple?

Haha, there is nothing wrong with them at all, I have one!

Every bugger's got one!

I was at a bike meet last night and there were at least half a dozen there, all very pretty, the only thing that stood out for me was the oldest one with the chrome lights, but otherwise I just walked passed.....

I know they ride well as I've ridden both versions myself; and there are good reasons it's a popular bike, but you'll never be the only one there at a meet.

You could try a Daytona 675...

Too true. I bought one yesterday.

I was looking into Street Triples some time ago and came to conclusion that there is absolutely no point in swapping SV650 for ST. Too similar (shape and size wise), and it is not even a V-twin (sorry, I have a thing for V-twins). Besides, there are so many of them about, I stopped noticing them at bike meets.

...but I would love to get Kawasaki W800 or Honda CB1100...as a second bike, of course!

How about a Moto Morini 9 1/2 Sport?
Probably not too many of them at your average meet.

Bike number one is a curvy. I really like both the VFR and the Triumph. I was hoping for some good comparative discussion.

Yep, there isn't much substance in it, it's just completely irrational feeling.

And I am sorry for sidetracking the subject...

It's not the engineering that's the problem, it's the execution. It would take a very long time to list all the various problems Ducati has had over the years...

On the other hand they are quite a lot faster and handle well.

Go totally left field and get a 750 Shiver or Dorso

There is good reasons Triumphs are popular... they're bloody good

My good friend has got Speed Triple and I must say I like it a lot. He is not impressed with precision of gearbox though (he switched from Suzuki and claims there is an unpleasant difference there).

Back to Italians - I quite regularly ride a Vespa and can't complain...

They're one cylinder shy of perfection.

One to many or one too few?

Have honestly been eyeing up a 675, but cannot really justify it yet. Need to get a lot more miles under my belt and better in the twisties before getting more power. But the 675 looks the dog's danglies.

Don't discount the cross fire R1.
