Got knocked of the SV this morning. Just filled her up and was turning right on a roundabout when a guy in a Mondeo didn't see me and ploughed straight into me at maybe 20-25mph. Sent me flying.
I'm alright but I have a very sore left arm and leg, particularly my knee. Bike is a bit messy. Nose cone is very broken and scratched, lost my left footpeg, gear lever and gear changer. Radiator is also bust I think as it emptied coolant everywhere.
I actually felt really sorry for the guy who hit me. He lives on my street and was rushing to hospital as he'd received a call to say his father, who has been ill for a long time, was dying. He's also a biker himself and was in a really bad state. It was kinda hard for me to be annoyed at him as it was obviously a genuine accident and he was probably in a bad way before he got into his car. I know he should have been looking but It could have been worse and I'm alright in the end.
Will post pics later.
Cheers

Yeah, the bike will mend. As for the driver, he should have known better.

Glad you're ok.
You're going to have to handle this very carefully. If his dad pops it he could be genuinely crushed and not want to deal with stuff... then again he could milk that in an attempt to buy time/fob you off.
At least you know him/can get hold of him easily enough.
I assume you'll be following the proper avenues through insurance etc.

Make sure you get yourself properly checked out, especially your knee. I got knocked off a few years ago and didn't realise I'd damaged my cartilage until a scan sometime later. Had the op last year but wish I'd known sooner.

He's a genuine guy and had all his insurance docs in the car with him so don't think I'll have any trouble at all. He couldn't have been more apologetic if he tried.
Called my insurer and they're sorting it all out. I have to go to the docs as I can't lift my left arm above my shoulder and my knee is getting bigger.
My neighbour is a mechanic and saw my bike parked up on his way to work. He said its a write off so that'll be that then. I'll defo buy it back but I'll need to decide whether to rebuild or strip for parts and get a new one.

Here we go. Few pics of the damage. Lots of broken plastics, but as far as I can tell its all repairable. Looks like I need a new radiator and then the left side lever, indicator, footpeg etc. Not too bad but reckon they'll still write it off.

Went to my GP for a checkup and he referred me to A&E. The knee is soft tissue damage however the shoulder is ligament damage and I have been told I'll need physio or it could become chronic.
The insurer of the driver, Admiral, have been brilliant. They've given me a courtesy car and are collecting my bike. He said they will most likely wrote it off and if we agree a settlement they'll send a cheque and let me keep the car for a week while I find a replacement bike.
He also said they would make an offer to me for personal injury once I have been assessed. Has anyone had any experience of this before? My insurers solicitors said they would deal with it all but would take 10%. I'm not looking to milk this but also don't want to be short changed so to speak.
Any advice would be warmly received.
Thanks

Regardless of situations, insurance is there for a reason and the drivers state of mind shouldn't be an issue here as all he needs to do is admit fault. Hope things go smoothly.
Damn! That is seriously unlucky for both of you!
Haggle the hell out of the value! Is that a thou?

They will offer you a low price for the bike so make sure you include all your kit in the claim, including boots helmet gloves jacket and trousers.

They've already agreed to pay me for gloves and helmet. They asked whether my jacket and trousers are damaged and I said I hadn't looked. I've now looked and they're fine - I've gone into the ground rather than along it so there's no damage. They'd take them away to inspect so I probably won't pursue that one.
As for the bike, luckily I used to work for a motor insurance claims department so I know how they like to do business! I've already looked and know how much it would cost to buy a bike of a similar age, mileage and condition so that's all I'm looking for.
The personal injury thing is more of an unknown to me. That's where I could do with a pointer.

I think that if you accept the initial PI payment, you'll be unable to make any further claim against them. It'll be a one off payment.
You can, in some serious injury circumstances, take an initial payment pending your treatment being successful or not and the implications that would bring. Then a final payment once the treatment is complete and the injuries healed.
I'm really pleased to hear his insurance company is being decent, it makes a change. GWS.

As above I had a payout for nerve damage and scar tissue in my back and hip. I was told that my injury would last 12 months. It's now been 11yrs so make sure the offer doesn't say final as I have been shafted by that
my girl friend got a pay out for whip lash
the usually offer £1000 + treatment
she refused the first offer
they came back with a offer of about £1600 + treatment
if remember rightly
but don't exept the first offer
is the point

The insurance assessor has been out and said the bike is a write off. Should have a value for me by the end of the week.
I discussed retaining the bike and they said they'd generally expect that anyway. Ideally I'd want to sell rather than repair, so my question is, do I sell it as a single unit or is it better to strip it for parts?

I received a "Soft Tissue" shoulder injury as a result of an off 10 years ago. I have never recovered properly and it still hurts and restricts my movement.
The initial 3rd parties medical check said I would be recovered in 6 months and they made an offer of about £1000 quid. In the meantime my GP referred me to an orthopedic surgeon specialising in shoulders who looked at the initial report checked the qualification and was amazed that somebody with no status in orthopedics was making assessments of injury and prognosis.
So armed with his report my solicitors went into action. After 3 years we were approaching court when the 3rd party insurers asked for another report. Their orthopedic specialist confirmed my injuries were still current and I was unlikely to ever full mobility or be pain free. I settled for a 10 grand payout. But I would gladly give back double not to feel like I have knife stuck in my shoulder as I type this.
So make sure you fully document your injuries and all problems you experience as a result. If it impacts on your ability to work. Get it wrote down.
I am exactly the same as Timwilky, had shoulder damage over 10yrs ago now and was told be ok in 12mths and excepted about £1500. I sit here typing this now in a constant pain like said above its like being permanently stabed in the shoulder and i also suffer in my neck from tensing up with the shoulder pain.:( If able wait until a proper diagnosis of repair time can be given and also if you will ever be 100% and pain free...
