Hi, does anyone know the thread size of the thermostat? Going to be plugging the hole, If not then chemical metal it is!

Thanks,

Chris

What bike are you asking about?
Do you mean the bolts that hold the thermostat housing together?
Not sure why you would wish to 'plug' them.

Sorry, meant to stick this in the sv section.

I've got a thermostat housing but no thermostat. I don't really need it as its a race bike, seems to be easier to get The entire housing and stat, but rather than have a spare housing sitting in my garage that will never get used I'd rather just plug it.

Just out of interest do you mean the temperature sensor in the thermostat housing?

The Thermostat itself which is in that housing is a device that you would not want to replace with a blank unless you wanted to get very limited use of the radiator.

If this is a 99-02 carb fuelled bike removing the temperature sensor will be OK, but for an 03+ you may find the fuelling is affected by not having this input.

Hi guys
Firstly I'm talking about my pointy engined curvy

Secondly I've been a div,I meant the temp sensor in the housing, I have no thermostat to go in my housing but I'm pretty sure running it without one just means coolant will always flow through the rad.

Not really a problem as it's a race bike and will be thoroughly warmed up before its run.

Feel free to correct me if you believe me to be wrong...

Thanks,

Chris

I can have a check this evening if that's useful? I have a curvy engine out at the moment so can pop this out and measure the thread & pitch. Hopefully it's the same for all years :)

I'm pretty confident it will be the same size for all years,

If you could check the size of yours I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks,

Chris

Seems to be an M10, but surprisingly fine pitch, seemingly narrower than M10x1.0, which is the finest thread measuring gauge I have in the garage.

A quick check with a vernier gauge has 10 threads in 9mm.

Is it a tapered thread?

Possibly JTPT which I think interchanges with BSPT.
