Yeah I went last year but managed to get tickets a few days before the ferry as a foot passenger. Can't go without the bike now though! I was hoping to go next year. Ive just come back from uni in Liverpool and watching all the bikes go through was torture! I hope you find some tickets!

If you aren't interested in taking the bike, you could speak to boatman on here. He does day trips to the TT and those dates may match what he's intending to run for a drop off and pick-up

Yeah Ive got a black K7 called Aunt Mai... Only did my direct access last year and I am fully addicted! For the ferry tickets, Ive been looking on Gumtree and Ebay, they sometimes appear on there, its hit and miss if you get the right days but its worth keeping an eye out!

Your best bet is to check end of February.
That's when people need to pay their full amounts so loads of tickets come up.
We booked outs on 31st May (when booking opened) and it was nearly all fully booked then.

The course is pretty pants tbh. Unless you do mad Sunday it's pretty much all 30-50mph and police everywhere not to mention **** heads cutting you up constantly. The mountain is awesome, I've ridden it a few times this week and did my last lap about 2 hours ago my tyres are shredded.

But apart from not being able to ride the mountain section I don't think I'd be bothered about not being able to bring the bike again. There's too much traffic over for the week (even for a bike as its bikes filtering causing it). A pushbike is probably a minimum I'd take but its all within walking distance.

We took pedally bikes last year and it was fantastic, you get to learn all the little back routes and you can drink (but too much mind, with lots of motorcycles sharing the road its still pretty scary)! We did a pub tour of the first section!
Its a good laugh, whatever transport your on!

We went as foot passenger last year but it wasn't all that bad. This year I took the SV, stayed near onchan raceway and walked everywhere. Monday it was to bray hill, Tuesday the prom, Wednesday hillbury (although I took the bike to secure seating for everyone early in the morning), Thursday the prom and Friday was govners dip. Then to the pubs, shops and grandstand ect

Literally all my bike was used for was going round the circuit 4 times which sounds great but when it costs nearly 3 times the price of foot passenger it suddenly doesn't seem so great.

Its such a long time that I last went, I'll bear this in mind for the future.

There were flights to IOM from my local airport, so that would save a lot of hassle if I didn't take the bike

Yeah plus on top of that, you get foot passenger tickets almost up to the day of sailing. Last year, I got a ticket about week before going out.... Beats having to be uber organised and buy ferry tickets years in advanced!!

What about getting somewhere to stay just before going? I'd like to know I'd got somewhere to stay even going as a foot passenger.

It is on the bucket list of things to do and if its easier to do without taking the bike, then all the better.

We didn't plan anything, just rocked up at the campsite at quaterbridge and got a spot for 9 of us... There was loads of room, and we pitched up late as well. Not so sure about b&bs or home stays thoug, I reckon they probably fill up pretty quickly.

I can't say whether taking a bike is better, we had A LOT of fun on pedally bikes though, each to their own suppose. It's certainly much easier on foot!

For me riding my push bike wouldn't be a problem, but I know it wouldn't be the case for my mate.

I could drive to Liverpool with my push bike in my car, then catch the ferry from there.

With the way the weather was on the IOM last week it would have been much better than here on the East coast!

watched it the last two years on the box , so much would love to go , what's the best way to get ferry tickets , I wont be taking the bike , also if im looking for b&b for me and the wife , where there best place to look , also on average how much would this all cost , might see if its in the wife's budget lol , so much sure by what you see on tv its worth every penny , how soon do you need to start looking , thanks,

The b&bs and ferry tickets for any transport sell out very very quickly, (sometimes if your lucky you can get late ferry tickets from gum tree etc). It's much easier to be foot passenger and opt for camping, that's what we've done in the past.

If your looking a bit more luxury then you have to plan ahead, I think people get ferry tickets a year plus in advance!

I hope you manage to sort something out!

We have camped, done home stay and now we rent a house for the week.

If you are camping then look into the facilities if you are taking the missus. A lot of the campsites senthave the best facilities for women. Because of this I won't stay at Quarter Bridge rugby club any more.

Home stay is a good alternative to a B&B. You stay with IOM residents in their homes and usually on a B&B basis.
That's about £20pppn.

Renting a house is better if you have a big group going as it is cheaper over all.

thanks for that , so once I have got ferry tickets and some where to stay that's it , don't have to pay any thing as far as the tt goes . will go and see where I can get tickets from now ,

The only other things you will have to pay for is Grandstand / seating tickets depending where you watch from, food and copious amounts of Bushys and O'kells beer.

£240-250'ish I think, foot passenger is 50 squid. Don't really pay attention to prices.

It's a lot cheaper for the Manx GP than it is the TT (if that's what you booked for)
Even if you book ferry tickets last minute for the TT they are exactly the same price as they were originally. Plus SteamPacket put the increase the prices every year.

I have heard on the grapevine while over there, that another ferry company is setting up so hopefully there will be competitive prices.

I'm over for the Southern 100.
Yeah I read that on the Manx Radio website, Elanin Vallin was mentioned.

This year we got a room in a homestay right on the four mile marker in Glen vine. It had a double bed, a single bed and an en suite bathroom. It was ok for my dad, son and I, however next year I'm planning on taking my other son, one of my daughters and the missus as well so I'm looking at a complete property.

Probably hire a car when I'm there too, they wanted £150 just to take the bike this year so I imagine it's cheaper to hire a car once you're there rather than take one over.

You guys buy the first beers, I'll buy the next! :D

We have secured our house for next year.

Have a look on IOMTT website and go on the forum there is a section for accommodation. That might help.

This is our view.

Book the foot passenger tickets you want, then ring for a car space in Feb.

Wideboy
12-06-13, 09:37 PM
how much is it to put a van on out of interest?

mrs t
16-06-13, 02:44 PM
i think it was £460, if under 5m long ours id a lwb transporter, we can get the sv and z1000 in the back , we have a side folding bed in there as well, so when the bikes come out we use the van to sleep in so works out cheaper in the long run for us

mrs t
16-06-13, 02:47 PM
12792

plus we can put the bikes away in the awning at night , theres still room for cooking, table and chairs etc:D
