Hi all

Change in job now means I will probably need a topbox. Now having never owned one before I have no idea whats the best makes, are they secure enough to leave items left in them while parked up etc e.g helmet

Any advice would be welcome as I will probably be looking at buying one sometime this week or next week

For an SV?

Kappa/Giving rack and 30 litre top box are grand for general use.

What sort of helmet? Some of the flip-front-with-built-in-sun-visor jobbies are bigger than a standard full face. Before you decide take your lid into a shop with display items and try them for size.

My V46 Givi takes two normal full face lids easily.

Yes it would be for a pointy k3. I plan on leaving my full face lid in there but has anyone ever had any problems with it being broken into?

I have left a helmet in topbox for years with no issue. I have carriedcomputer, camera etc however I would not leave these items un-attended. When Ihave been away overnight, I would take topbox inside where I was staying. It isprobably a bit like airport luggage. Expensive looking kit might be moretempting than cheap and cheerful. Never had a problem with anyone breaking into my box, I like Givi boxes and the 30L is the most reasonable size, nothing wrong with the bigger ones, just 30L is ideal.

Thnx rictus for the pics. Do you ever have trouble filtering with the larger box

My V46 is about the same size as Rictus' larger box and it's still narrower than the handlebars, so no, filtering is not compromised.

true the larger box doesn't hamper filtering from a size perspective, however it can become a bit like a car boot and you could end up carrying loads of junk about, as the weight is behind the rear axle it does lighten the steering somewhat.

I tend to keep the larger box for times when I have the panniers as well and use the 29ltr one for my daily use.

Cheers Mark.

Using my 47l top box I can occasionally get some low speed wobble but that's probably because I'm not used to riding with it as I don't often use it so that's probably why. I still manage to filter fine though.

I only keep waterproofs and spare gloves in mine. It's mainly very useful for stashing my lid when I'm wandering around at my destination.

I have the givi 52l trekker on my explorer, it's so much better than my older 47l givi box, it's squarer design makes it so much easier to get stuff in, I've already used it to go camping twice over here and four days camping in Belgium.

I've just fitted a Givi 45 litre on the curvy from Wemoto (http://www.wemoto.com/parts/picture/gi-e45njbox/) which takes two helmets (just) and comes off easily if I need to hide it. It's a bit budget so no reflectors but it does the job just fine
