View Full Version : Making exhaust quieter?

I've got a Beowulf exhaust on my sv which I bought with it on and it's too loud! It's a short can but I think the baffle has been removed. Is there any way of checking if there gone? Can you buy baffles or will I need a new pipe?

Pics would help
Beowulf will be able to replace it or get a DbKiller off Ebay
Evil bay worth a look for a db killer.
note short cans can't allways accomidate one though

Need a photo of the exit pipe to see if the baffle is in place

Well you can see the baffle bolt in that pic, so it should be there. Under the exit pipe is a 5mm hex bolt. This screws into the baffle to hold it in place.
My beowolf is getting silly loud too - I suspect it needs a repack, it was not this loud when new.

Just because the bolt is there doesn't mean the baffle is.
I took my baffle out but left the bolt in. That way the hole won't fill up with rubbish or rust so easy and ill not loose the bolt!
The stubbies are never that quiet .
get a longer one . it should give more mid range too

I'm sorry but this sentence does not compute - there is no "...too loud"

Hopefully the baffle will still be in it thereby making the remedy very simple -
(1) Start bike up and revel in the glorious sound of a V Twin internal combustion engine
(2) Turn engine off
(3) Wait for exhaust to cool down then remove baffle
(4) Repeat (1) but have a cloth close to hand in case blood from the ears needs mopping up
(5) Turn engine off
(6) Wait for exhaust to cool down then replace baffle
(7) Repeat (1) this time wondering what all the fuss was about - it's really not that loud

Easy.
I live round the corner from the Beowulf factory. They can 're-sleeve' it and make it a tad longer.. I was asking about it yesterday.
Sent from that magical device in my pocket.
You can buy the bits to redo it yourself.

Good plan Jon. Or do what I did, get a husband with an even noisier exhaust than your own, then make him leave the quiet cul-de-sac you live in ten minutes before you. I never wake my neighbours as Mr LPH has already done it.
though the BMW was electric its so quiet LPH

Not since I fitted the Beowulf and the baffle accidentally fell out on the garage floor.
You revel ;)

Iv got the longer version and thats plenty loud. Especially is that baffle mysteriously finds its way out of the exhaust and under the rear seat.
On mine atleast, it is just a hole in the exit pipe and the thread is on the baffle itself. Thus i wouldnt be able to leave the allen head bolt in without the baffle.
I bet it is just loud with that stubby. Does it not just make you grin when you open it up though? ;).
The noise can get on ya Tatz if you go on a long trip.
Plus you have to live with your neighbours.

Yeah mine can bug me abit, its a nice sound though so its not too bad :).
Hmm im lucky. My roads on abit of a hill. So if i get back late i turn the engine off at the top and roll down the road like a ninja and straight onto the drive. No one knows a thing ;)

I've just put a db killer in my micron exhaust. I loved the roar it gave, but I don't think my neighbours appreciated getting woken up at 7:30 every morning.
My next door neighbour did comment the next afternoon when I got in at 3am .and I costed it 400 yards .
