So it is my son's 14th birthday soon and I have been putting off buying him a phone as he is ridiculously bad at looking after things. We are planning to get him one this birthday.

Here is the criteria:

Must be cheap (<£50 second hand)
Must be Android (to enable our parental control software)
Have decent memory (so many cheap phones have abysmal memory)
Must be PAYG (Vodafone preferably)

I have seen a couple, Vodafone make and own brand Smart Mini, but the specs aren't brilliant, the best one I have come across is the Huawei Ascend G300.

Any suggestions would be greatly recieved

Sorry, nothing to contribute to your question I'm afraid but interested in your comment about parental control software - which do you use and would you recommend it?

I use one called Qustodio. It is available for Android, iPhone, PC and Mac.

The free one is good but I paid for the premium version which gives u social monitoring aswell. You can set time limits aswell e.g my son's tablet locks at 10pm so he is unable to use it.

Would definitely recommend it.
