Panniers rubbing on rear panels

I went to London last year and I used Oxford Lifetime soft panniers but they rubbed all the paint off the rear panels. What do you guys use to stop it from rubbing? Will a cheap non slip mat from eBay do?

Just slap on some black electrical tape on your side fairings. Sorted. Nice and cheap and comes off easy :)

What I do is cover the panels in a coat of wax polish (not rubbed off) then stick some clear parcel tape to that.

Parcel tape stops the panniers rubbing the paint
Wax polish stops the parcel tape sticking too well to the panels
The use of clear parcel tape means it doesn't look a right messy bodge. Poundland sell the tape. (it's a pound before you ask)

NOTE. I can confirm parcel tape applied directly to panels then left for a few days of riding about in the sun is a bitch to get off of panels not previously given a generous coating of wax!

Poundland also do the rubber matting that can be cut to size and is easier to remove.

Problem is if you get some grit in the rubber matting it mullers your paintwork. Especially bad if you go out in the rain as you get the muddy water in there which acts like rubbing compound.

Get a clear sheet of thick protective plastic/vinyl that is used on tank protectors

I personally have never had any problems with the rubber mats, used to commute 250+ miles a week up as down m25 in all weathers and never scratched my paint work.

I brought a roll of the stuff originally for my car dash board. Then just cut a long enough bit off and drape it over the rear seat before strapping on the panniers.

One old set I had used to do this, I just put a towel over the seat so it hung down the sides to protect the plastics, like you do on a horse. Or if you're Ford Prefect.

I got one and cut out two pieces to stick on the back of my bike so my soft panniers won't scratch the hell out of my bike.

I did about 800 miles to Wales without any issues.
I re-used the same strips for my Euro trip and covered about 2100 miles.

Had some rain while in Germany/Austria and the mat picked up some muck, however it didn't leave any scratches on the bike cos it was stuck to the bike with some tape so it didn't move much.

I to use that non slip rubber matting stuff. It sometimes leaves abit of a mark where its kind of stuck to the paint, but that can be wiped off and it never scratches.
I cut it to size so it can go under the pillion seat (a hole for the latch) then it cant slide off and hangs down over the side panels.
