Got hit by what can only be described as a brick in my van and its made a chip with a 3" long crack, although the crack is less than halfway through the glass and right at the bottom out of the way of vision.

I've repaired chips before with epoxy but never done anything with a crack, apparently it can be done?

I'm a notorious tight ar5e and would rather not be replacing it as it's heated, so anyone used repair kits?

yes I am fully aware most insurance companies cover it but i don't have the time nor patients to deal with my insurance company and national windscreens as i have done in the past, plus my epoxy repairs have lasted considerably longer than their "specialist" repairs. I'm not interested in any of that or MOT implications, i just want to know about repair kits.

i would use epoxy again but not sure how to force it into the crack?

Just as an aside, if you can repair it do. We were quoted £700 for a new screen for the Focus, that started out with a small crack like you've got now. Dont leave it to long to get it repaired, but I suspect you know this.

I put it through the insurance in the end, if you want to know details let me know as it was pretty painless.

I'll shut up now :D

A sudden temperature change can cause the chip to crack. Phone Gavin from Autoglass. If you're fully comp it's usually free.

Autoglass repair, Autoglass replace

to stop a crack in a laminate screen you need to drill both ends to reduce the tension .
