Hi all
Can anyone one tell how big a job it would be to change a gearbox output shaft bearing?
Cheers

Usually an engine strip.
But depends on what bike - only we don't know that bit.

It is a full strip and rebuild. Everything.
About £150 in parts (gaskets, and bearing).
I know this as I have done this.
If you order the bearings from Suzuki they have some of the part numbers wrong on the '99 model fiche. Not checked the later models but its the same engine basically. I used a local engineering firm to remove and replace the bearing from the cases using non Suzuki bearings to help keep cost down.
It will also take a good few hours and some additional tools not in the a standard tool kit. I'm not sure how happy with spanners you are but it is a very big job, but nothing that can't be done at home. If you want a garage to do it for you it would be cheaper to buy a brand new bike.

Thanks squirrel_hunter, im not afraid of tackling most things, but a full strip might be beyond me. The bike has run for about 40 miles with a tight spot on the chain.
It felt tight, but didnt feel stretched tight if that makes sense, so hopefully no damage has been done

If the output bearing were duffed you'd know soon enough - it wouldn't be quiet or oil tight. If the chain were tight enough to damage something, the sprocket carrier bearing is the bit that would go first.
