dilemma is my service is due in 300 miles (18k) and i'm going to be doing 300 miles this Sunday. so do i do the service now and use this Sunday run to make sure everything is okdoki or just do the service next week for my holiday?

Service now. Nothing worse than finding something wrong just before you set out on a big trip, or worse still, when you're away from home, workshop and tools. Got a hold of Zorro by the way, very helpful chap, thanks again.

would be a bit of peace of mind knowing that it's been checked and had a run out again before heading off

I would definitly be servicing mine before a big trip, already made that mistake before, and after a £200 recovery charge (didn't have breakdown cover) I made sure I wouldn't do it again :)

yeah you wouldn't wanna service the bike and do something stupid like hand tighten the sump plug and then get distracted by a phone call and then have the sump plug fall out about 20 miles from home...... only a moron would do that.

like an actual boss.... t'was about this time last year. And despite dropping all it's oil at about 50mph and the engine running for probably 40 seconds after the sump plug fell out, the bike went on to do another 3500-4000 miles in my ownership and is now owned by markc on here. :)

Yep. Service now then a shakedown run before the big trip.
