There is mixed news, Stu said to me he had a dislocated and broken ankle, but, it might be one is broken and the other is dislocated. He is in hospital with his misses.
The GSXR is cursed mind you
Ouch! Get well soon, mate!

He lost the back end on a left hander (speed around 45) and slid across the road feet first into 2 bollards and a speed limit sign ripping them out of the ground. The bike hit the kerb and continued round the corner.
He's ended up with right heel and ankle breaks, his flat mate was off to collect him from the hospital when I left.
Got his bike back to his house, damage doesn't look to bad to my uneducated eye, back end took most of the impact. It lost all of it's oil, hopefully just from the broken cover. I had a bit of a wait for the recovery so started making a list of what was broken/damaged, both front fairings?, left mirror, clipon, engine cover, gear lever, rearset, rear plastics, brake light, sub frame (anything behind the front seat is buggered), rear wheel, possible twisted linkage, frame slider (worn down to the bolt).
On the plus point this could have been a lot worse, although he was moaning on an earlier stop that he was hot and regretted wearing his leathers had he not done so the inch of missing knee slider would now be a couple of inches of missing knee. He was lucky to avoid any oncoming traffic and the bollard stopped him from hitting a stone wall.
The speed sign

I should also say the police and the ambulance crews were brilliant. They even left me with a community police guy for protection from passing pikies until the recovery eventually turned up. The RAC however were cr4p I'll be cancelling my membership and they will never see any of my money again.
Green flag actually wanted to help, bit useless though, if I was to tell you I wanted a motorcycle recovering would you then ask if it was 4 wheel drive?

One of my colleagues had a similar injury from falling down some steps (no she wasn't in police custody :) ) and has been off work for weeks. I hope his heals (no pun intended) faster than that.

Just talked to Nikki, Stu is still in hospital. He wasn't released last night (me not understanding who 'flat mate' was collecting), he had surgery last night to set the ankle and heel. This morning he's back in theatre having his shin fixed.

Hi all, this hospital has internet.
I'm relatively ok. I dislocated my left foot and shattered my left tibia and fibia as well as my right heel bone. Am in hospital for at least week.

I had some relatively square tyres, been meaning to change them but other things kept breaking and i fixed them instead. Went into a left hand corner and leant off the bike but wasn't really going fast enough but leant over a bit more and i hit that bit of tyre where the square hits the curve and equals zero grip. It slipped out immediately, no warning, no skid mark on the road, so little tyre was in contact it just went.

Bad luck but at least it's something we can all learn from. You're persumably a pretty experienced rider (judging by bike/join date) so I didn't think it would be one of the usual mistakes.
My back tyre's got a bit squared recently and I've noticed it locking under heavy braking where the centre of the tread is worn. Didn't really think it could affect grip when the bike's leant over till I read that and thought about it - will bear that in mind.
GWS mate anyway.

Being Stu's best mate all I can do I laugh about the first bit.
Bit, you're right, we can all learn from this, check your tyres and if the are "telling" you something, listen!

Been out of it the past few days, lots of drugs and lots of pain. Now got all tubes out of me, the drain from my foot was 4 inches long and pulling it out was hell. Screamed the ward out. But am on the mend now, can't walk for another week but then hoping to be on crutches.
Decided to sell the GSXR and get a DRZ400SM instead, try some fun riding and less serious riding for a while. Just deciding if i should break it or flog it as a project.
