I have put this up now, though it is not for sale until week beginning 5th aug. Im happy to deliver the bike within a few hours ride if money for a train/a lift home is offered :)
For sale is my year 2000 cb500. The bike is currently restricted to 33bhp. The bike starts first time everytime, and has never broken down in the almost 2 years I have owned it.(some org members will recall it overheated slightly on one rideout as the fan didnt cut in, the fan works again after that one off) The bike comes fitted with some aftermarket parts which I will list below. The fuel exhaust can on the bike makes a nice addition and gives it a bit of character and is pretty beastly without the baffle! The bike is currently fitted with oxford premium heated grips, I will include these in the sale for an extra £50(rrp £76), as otherwise I will remove them for my next bike.
The bike is taxed til 30th of sept and moted until 29th September 2014. I have no doubts it will pass without a problem. In all, the bike is a great starting place for someone getting into biking, or just as a winter hack or commuter. It has no problem sitting at 70mph on the motorway; with the restrictor fitted I have managed about 85mph out of it.
I have a fairly extensive list of servicing carried out on the bike which I will list below. The bikes neutral switch has been worn since I got the bike, this means the dash will only indicate neutral when the bike is fairly cold, its an easy fix to buy a new one for £18 or so, but I never really rely on the light so I haven’t bothered. The chain and sprockets will need doing sometime soon at some point but otherwise the bike needs nothing doing and runs superbly. I have always serviced the bike when needed, so the bike hasn’t been skimped on. Both of the tyres have plenty of life left, the rear is very new and the front is still going strong.
Cosmetically the bike is ok other than one of the panels. This front panel has had a few cracks repaired, and will need finishing off and painting to look good again, but it is fine as is for a run about. I have been quoted £120 from a good paint shop to do the work, or you could have the colour made up at Halfords and DIY. The paint elsewhere has a few scratches and small dings as you would expect from a 13 year old bike, but overall isn’t too bad. The seat was recovered a few months back to replace the old one with holes in, it has a tiny nick but otherwise looks brand new. The engine casing paint has peeled off slightly, again what you expect from a bike this age really.
Aftermarket parts fitted:
Givi top box and rack
Fuel exhaust can with removable baffle (fitted at 28000 miles)
Braided brake line on front brake (fitted at 29500 miles)
Aftermarket mirrors (old ones were rattling, causing a noise at high speed, these new ones also give a slightly wider view)
Blue bar ends
Servicing carried out:
Air filter + plugs were changed soon before I got the bike at approx 27000 miles
Coolant change + oil and filter change at 27870 miles
New battery, front tyre, sprocket carrier bearing, new fork oil, new front disc and pads and front brake fluid 28500 miles
New front sprocket 29200 miles
New rear disc and pads, new rear brake fluid 30300 miles
Oil and filter changed 30470 miles. I also checked the air filter and plugs at the same time, all still good.
Carbs balanced 31000 miles
New rear axle nut 31060 miles as old was worn out
New rear tyre 31822 miles
Mileage will be more like 33,200 by the time a sale comes round.
Im looking for £950 (or quite near offer potentially)
Only selling to fund my unrestricted gixxer as i can ride that shortly :)
Note that in the pics it has a tutoro chain oiler fitted, this is coming off onto my next bike also unless you want to buy it at cost price.
She hasnt been washed in these pics so not quite as squeaky as she can be.
