Hi guys

Ive only had my k3 pointy a few weeks and have noticed the while riding my temp guages goes up and down from around 84 to 92 constantly while riding even at a steady pace?

My coolant level is normal and the bike runs fine

Ive had other v-twins and 4 cylinder bikes but none have ever done this?

Thanks

That's normal operating temperature. The fan probably kicks in at 92 cooling the engine, once it drops sufficiently it'll stop. Then the temp will rise again. Can't say I've ever looked at the temp gauge whilst riding, usually only use it to check it's up to temp before ragging it!

It's unlikely the fan is playing a big role when you're moving, it tends to make itself felt north of 102ish degrees without airflow (it's only job is to draw some air through the radiator, when you're moving even fairly slowly you're doing that across the whole radiator, not just the bit with the fan).

The thermostat, however, does an important job of restricting coolant flow to the radiator when the temperature starts to drop, keeping the engine up to temperature. As it opens and closes you tend to see the temperature build slightly, then as it opens the flow to the radiator you get an influx of cooler liquid and the temperature comes back down again, closing it.

Perfectly normal, and in fact a very good thing for providing a consistent operating temperature :)

Changing between high 70's low 80's to low 90's is perfectly normal. Fan on mine doesn't come on until 104C. You will find less of a difference on faster A roads and dual carriageways, more of a difference in winter.

Oh wow...just started a thread like this. Glad to see it's normal! :D
