View Full Version : Failed my mod 2 ....Gutted

Just on the off chance that some legal eagle is out there.... I failed my test on Monday for not been far enought to the right when exiting a one way street.... 20 inches stood between me and my license ....
Do I have any redress as the signage is completely hidden from veiw by over hanging trees ,,,!,, I've taken pictures of this and will be raising my concerns..but don't expect much...
Bit of back ground I'm 42 and drive a ambulance for a living, so would like to think I have good knowledge of the Highway Code, plus I've done 4000 on my ybr 125 since April.

nope.
AFAIK even if the instructor fails you for "being a bit gay" it can't be overturned, the best that can happen is he/she gets a rap on the knuckles and you really don't want to take a test at their center again.
Isn't there an appeal system where you can get a free retest if found in your favour?
if the examiner thinks your not ready they will fail you for silly things. contrary to popular belief they are not out to fail people they are there to make sure your less likely to kill yourself once you have the pass certificate and move onto a larger machine. it makes not one bit of difference how much practise time or your previous driving skill regarding 4 wheeled vehicles.
there is no point arguing so suck it up and try again.
Ds02ade
15-08-13, 06:25 PM
Yup.. I can get a free test if I'm successful ...however I have since my test found 4 other riders who failed their test in the same place, with the same examiner....surely this is evidence enough to ask questions if the test was carried out in the correct spirit and FairPlay .... And I hope he doesn't need an ambulance any time soon !( that last comment is a joke, of course I would give him the best treatment as I would any patient)

Take it on the chin and chock it up to experience ;) similar thing happened to me on my driving test many many years ago - not nice when it happens but now you know.
Good luck next time.

Seems wrong that if you get a speeding ticket and you appeal because the sign was obscured it can be withdrawn !

Lance is right if they want to fail you (cos they don't think you have it yet) they'll find domething to try u on. Sounds like the examimer knows this spot is good place to get folk. Its **** I know but take some comfort in knowing you're not the first and won't be the last :)
I failed my car test in similar ways, zero minors and one major. Felt robbed but got on with it and passed next time.
Kudos on the job mate, maximum respect to you and those in that career.
more to the point how many did he pass that day/week. people seem to forget that they do their job day in day out so see a lot of different riders. on the day it was his call not yours. he failed you for a reason like a lot of others and is nothing to do with who you are its to do with if he thinks your in control and are safe.
think of it as him potentially stopping you from having a ride as a patient in your ambulance. you must have seen hundreds of bikers in the back of your work vehicle so you should be more grateful to his decision.
unlike a speeding ticket you cant get another life, it's a one time only deal.

Re comment from Bibio....Surely it's not his job to think, it's to assess, I only had two minors so I know my ride was ok, and to say my previous driving experience is not relevant is tosh... But thanks for your input

Think more of him costing me another £150.... And how many miles have you ridden this year
so you had two minors and one major hhhmmm.
well think what you want m8 you FAILED. get over it.
Think more of him costing me another £150.... And how many miles have you ridden this year
it's only money.
more to the point how many miles have you ridden a bike for in total.
due to curcumstances i do 300-400 every sunday and recently done a 4 day holiday up the north of scotland on mainly single track roads that totalled 1200miles. your barking up the wrong tree

Re comment from Bibio....Surely it's not his job to think, it's to assess, I only had two minors so I know my ride was ok, and
well if it's not his job to think then he did the right thing, you contravened a rule was classed as a major fault so he gave you one, you'll find many roadsigns aren't as clear as we might like its one of the thigns everyone has to deal with, preferably safely.
to say my previous driving experience is not relevant is tosh... But thanks for your input
It's not.
I know drivers who've been on the road 40 years and are rubbish.
Its usually best to get to know the roads in the area you'll be taking your test in, that way you can avoid things like this (not that I quite understand what you'd done)
touchy.. whats wrong the boyfriend not giving you any ass.

I think bibio only has "special friends"
that's not nice calling a few of the members on this forum 'special'. i'm 'very special' yes but as far as i know i don't think they are. reprobates, granted.. wait hhmm you might be on to something.
TBH not the best way to introduce yourself to the forum.
Yeah its a bit crap about the test, as others have said its a lesson learned.

In so many senses of the word.
Just an FYI but if you're going to be offensive to members of the forum you really ought to consider moving to Guildford.

Not quite as good an intro to the forum as LittleWebber but still fun.
Dear God man, you failed. Get over it.
Get back on your bike and get ready for the next test. If you honestly think the instructor is out to fail people just go to a different test centre, pass your test and move on.
And i agree with Bib, driving a van with blue lights on it has nothing to do with riding a bike.
Focus your efforts on the next test not being a keyboard warrior

You failed, it happens, . I failed first time and yeah I was ****ed, it was a small error but I got over it. Passed the second time, and then I actually learnt to ride a motorbike. Passing your test is just the start of your journey mate.
Just because you've driven a car doesn't mean your safe on a motorbike.
I think bibio only has "special friends"
I know Bibio has special friends I'm one of them!!! Ain't I sweetheart :smt052:smt008

Ive not gone .... just had to finish the fliwer arrangement I'd started before the tread went a bit off at a tangent. ..thanks to all for you kind words and to bib for making me have the hope that if he can pass his test even I have a fighting chance next time. ..and fyi the examiner was a fat bloke who will probably die early because of his over active glands...sorry I meant hands.
yey he's back.
well i'm sorted there coz i had a 5 graft by-pass.
also passed my test suffering from severe angina attacks, yes it was fun having mini heart attacks but i still PASSED FIRST TIME with flying colours.

Just wondering if everyone said tough s*** try again........

I nearly dropped it on the figure of eight because I was going to slow and I put my foot down.
don't worry when you do pass all that frustration will be gone and if your a good boy then you wont have to do it again.
£150 for a test is taking the pizz.
try chatting up one of the more seasoned members on here local to you to take you out and assess your riding. you never know you might just pick up some good road craft and knowledge.
Of course your welcome on a ride out, everyone is, we have had L plates and restricted licenses and restricted bike’s (lol long story that was) with us so no problem there….just don’t go around winding up the old folk..(lol sorry bib).
Oh and getting a Yam ?...hum…you’ll miss out on the fun.

Not sure Lance! The riding they teach you to pass your test is completely different to good riding technique. Ya know, if I'd ridden in the middle of the road today as they teach (and expect you to ride to pass your test), I would've spent my entire time in gravel and would've been off the first time I touched the front brake. We'd probably be better of teaching him knitting. I bet you're a dab hand with a couple of needles and a ball of yarn.

Cheers guys... If its any consolation , I have to stare at my yellow sv650 for another 17 days at least before I can ride her.....torture !!!!
since you mention it yes i am a bit of a dab hand at sewing.
as long as he remembers he is doing a test and not riding properly he'll be fine. cant hurt to have a bit more knowledge. 1hr of riding like a gentleman is all it takes.

As I said, move to Guildford. There's barely a member of the Guildford massive that hasn't upset the whole forum at least one point or another.
Except Tomor, He's worryingly inoffensive, perhaps we could send him up to Grimsby in your stead.

Lance a legend? Woah woah woah, I'm not sure I ready to sign up for that! ;)
OP - Legend or not Lance is a respected forum member, he's a contributor and not just a participant. There are many members who have been helped by him in one way or another, many ride bikes featuring parts he's made!
Fortunately he's also quite tolerant (hence his quantity of posts) and he's seen your comments as banter as opposed to petulant. Swallow the pride a little and respect the existing forum members so with a wit like yours you'll become a brilliantly entertaining member of the forum.
As Ad' says above you've got to work pretty hard to be ousted from been included on a ride.
17 Days until a retest seems impressive to me  time flys!
Oh and £150 per test WTF!!!! I dont think I paid over £50 for mine... never mind the having been failed, its that that would pi55 me off the most.
Why about Sir Lance-a-lot ;)

I'm sympathetic mate. Was lucky enought to pass both bike mods first time but failed my first car test because I failed to check my mirrors properly before setting off...
...after stopping for a huge gang brawl which was taking place in the middle of the road and saw someone's head being punched into the bonnet at one point. No minors either - nothing like showing a bit of discretion!
