stuR

If the weather isnt raining monday, anyone fancy a decent ride somewhere? Not sure on destinations or routes, but a good trip to the seaside or out into the country somewhere. Having not led a run before if anyone fancys leading one i would be happy to backmark, but if there are no takers i could try to organise something. Any interest?

Hows the GSXR treating you Stu?

Put me down as a maybe for now!

Bloody amazing! Needs some all weather tyres as opposed to the supercorsas, got that booked for next week. Practically no rear brake, but other than that not alot to sort out really, ride is lovely. Need to implement more countersteering, trying to actually steer doesnt do alot.

I finish my first night shift at 0900 on the Monday and have to be back in work for 1730 latest for my second night shift.
So, I'm in but I may have to catch you up if starting early and leave the ride early to get back in time.

It was this weeks interest from my current account. Allowed my to buy the place and still have some change ;)

Haha. Both those things surprised me too when I rode an SRAD 750. Rear brake rubbish and found it really hard to corner! I thought that it couldn't be right. Yes, it's harder to tip in than the SV, but once there it's planted. You just need to consciously countersteer. In fact there is still a private video of my first ever ride on one hidden on youtube. I'll PM you the link for giggles and see if you can relate.

As for ride out, will confirm closer to the time.

Depends on which direction you head in. The coast and August BH do not normally make for good riding if the weather is great as every bugger heads that way.

Practically no rear brake

Rear brakes are just unnecessary ;)

I'm a maybe dependant on route and time.

Agreed, coast on a bank holiday is like going for a ride out on the m25 on a Friday afternoon. Do the Cotswolds or something.

From Guildford?!

stuR

Yeah lets go north then. Any ideas of a good destination within the cotswolds and surrounding areas? Not been there I dont think, so i dont know any good roads thats for sure.

Winder
21-08-13, 07:55 AM
Loads and loads of good roads in the Cotswolds. A fast twisty route known as the Charlbury TT goes from Burford to Charlbury and is loved by bikers.
Lots of really good roads around Chipping Norton and Cheltenham. Only been once and had someone leading so I have no idea on specific routes either but I'm sure we could work something out if you decided the Cotswolds was the destination.
Only bit I know well in the Cotswolds is getting on the A44 from Oxford and staying on it until Llandrindod Well. Starts boring and gets more awesome the further West you go.
Sticking on one road is good for me as I'm a route retard.

If everyone is up for a ride out on Monday, We need .....
A Leader with a route and start time and place..
StuR where and when please.

If I am late Don't wait for me.....

stuR
21-08-13, 12:29 PM
Well if we are heading north and alot of you are coming from south of reading, then it may be wise to meet somewhere in the reading area? With that in mind, how is 9:30/10am??

Matt-EUC
21-08-13, 03:10 PM
May I suggest somewhere a bit more central to everyone in the GM?

Dropped pin

Errrrmmm that is far from central.....

Matt-EUC
21-08-13, 03:27 PM
Slightly north of central but more convenient for me :p and its easy access for everyone being just off the a3

stuR
21-08-13, 03:34 PM
Why would everyone want to ride south just to meet then ride north? Doesnt really make sense. If everyone is coming from gm area and going north, maybe bracknell/maidenhead is a more appropriate. I think your all big enough to find your way out the door aintcha?

Matt-EUC
21-08-13, 03:36 PM
A lot of the GM come from the south.

Winder

If you were set on going to the Cotswolds then H Cafe would be a good place to meet. Plus every Monday is bike night so could call on the way home.

Anyway. If you are meeting at 10 AM then I should be able to make it if I leave work at bang on 9AM. Not fussed where we go. I'm in.

If people are travelling up it makes more sense to me to meet later to allow us to meet somewhere logical, not meet somewhere that is convienient for half the rideout, with the other half going out of their way.

Stop being difficult Matt. Stu is organising a ride out to the Cotswolds starting from somewhere in the Reading area. If you want to do something different the feel free.

Right h cafe a 10am, for a 10:15ish start to allow for the stragglers it is. I will endeavour to have a gander at routes etc tonight and try and work something out.

That pin is well out of the way for Mike Stu and Me. Pretty much anything south(east) of loomies is a bit silly. Basingstoke, where we often meet anyway is not a bad shout. Would happily meet further north too. What is the H Cafe postcode (can't get onto their site). I'm a very probable. Just need to check if we had prior plans.

OX10 7LY. H Cafe

This is a the TT route as the locals call it.

A4074 from Reading to H Cafe is a good road (in parts) if your coming from that way. Unfortunately it's now mostly 50mph though

Cheers guys. Yeah, that would be cool Mike. Out on the M4 or M40 initially?

SvNewbie
21-08-13, 04:26 PM
Definitely M4 -> A404 -> A4130 -> A4074. Actually quite a pleasant road in that direction. The M40 and Oxford ring-roads are no fun at all.

H cafe - burford - charlbury - touchdown cafe near warwick is approx 64 miles. But thats the quickest route and not sure if after charlbury how good that section would be? If that sounded agreeable, maybe after that we could head back into central cotswolds by a different route..what google maps tell me is moreton in marsh, roads look nice...ride around there for a bit then head back towards the h cafe? That would seem to be about 130 miles..sounds good??

If i am going to lead is is gona be via the satnav, dont have loads of time to organise something with lots of individual places, maybe 5/6 destinations or key places to ride through, but if anyone has a bit more time or a good a-b-c-d etc satnav let me know... i certainly dont have time to pre-ride it this weekend unfortunately. Im just hoping it doesnt rain as im not going for a jolly in the wet on the supercorsas, i am getting pr3s but not til next weds as the tyre bloke is not around this sat.

Or alternatively, fallout, can I meet you in Basingstoke? I'd rather go with someone than try and fumble my own way there.
