Why, are you rather forgetful? :p

no but oneday i'll be old and wrinkly and will probably forget things :) then i'll look down at my leg and remember the good days :)
no but oneday i'll be old and wrinkly, then i'll look down at my leg
Precisely why I would never get a tattoo ;)
Only my opinion though, if you like it that's all that matters I guess.

funnily enough I have a couple of crossed pistons under a skull on my left arm, first bike club, first big bike, wondrous times to remember, although being 17 at the time; I do recollect me Mum going ballistic and my Dad just smiling...

I only have three, as mentioned and an Aldershot eagle and heart on my right arm, both are between elbow and shoulder so are covered most of the time, they are really just for me, like you said, they stir a memory, even nearly forty years on.

Yes I have quite a few.
Most of mine have no meaning what-so-ever (what meaning can a cartoon goldfish have?!)
I love my tattoos and have designed all of them myself.
I have plans for a new one but that will take a while to get done as it won't be cheap.
I am very picky who does my tattoos as a lot of them that I see aren't the best.
I don't care about being wrinkly when older and having tattoos as I am sure the majority of the elderly then will have tattoos so it will be the norm. Or I will just get very fat so I don't wrinkle :)

Not my actual one but mines that same design.
Its on my left shoulder, I wanted one but never intended to get one at the moment in time.
I went to the studio with my sister and looking back she was a bit of a bitch, she said I had to get one there and then otherwise I never would.
I chose that because I've always loved birds of prey, eagles have such a majesty and pride about them I think its to be admired... hence my choice.
The worst part about mine wasnt that I chose it under pressure but more because I chose it on a budget, I'd have much preferred to have waited and gotten something like this:
http://classic.makesweet.com/example/store/eg2576/x2009032649cc165ec00e6755307648_1238112088835_back-tattoo_400x300_20_hip.jpg
FYI I decided to get it on my back for one reason... I dont see it very often, therefore I dont get bored of it and I still like it when i do see it.

Although now Justin bieber and a bunch of other celebrities are getting them I'm somewhat put off... Although at least it changes the dribbling public's perception of them a bit!

I have one. It's a rather substantial Pegasus across my left shoulder. I designed it myself, and being quite large its yet to be finished(looks acceptably so at this stage). After several hours in one first session it started to get a bit annoying. Prob go back later this year.
It represents my other half(he's Pegasus here), and my life long fixation with flying horses. Where ever I go, he goes too. Watching over me, as he's always done since the day we first met. I'm as much of a romantic and sentimental old fool as he is. ;) Had it done on my left shoulder, as its fecked. Reminds me, no pain, no gain. Which can be interpreted in more ways than one in life's journeys.
As for being a hairy gorilla, my other half is exceptionally so. He's got a Celtic phoenix from shoulder to shoulder, amongst others. That phoenix will keep on rising from ashes, just like its owner!

I have one on my right upper arm, it is Excalibur (the sword) with a scroll wrapped round it with my wife's and 4 children's names so has quite a powerful meaning in as much as I feel like their protector as Excalibur was for King Arthur. Also has a small alteration at the top where I have has a red cross to signify the Saint George cross rather that the engraving which was on the original sword.

Being serious, this is one of the reasons I'll probably not get any for.
As someone said to me (guy is a tattooist), there is too many people tattooed up here and tattooed as a status symbol.
For anyone that hasn't been to Newcastle, we have stupid amounts of Chavs up here that live on the words of celebrities

There's a difference between the tattooed alternative person and the tattooed chav though Andy
Taste ;)
Every man and his dog is tattooed these days, this is unfortunately true. Half of them look like they did it themselves with their child's crayons.
I've only got the 2. One is a small tattoo on my right arm of the No Fear eyes. Kinda pointless really. Will probably get it covered or designed around at some point.
My chest piece though is a bit bigger... ;)
Excuse the man boob. This was a few hours after it was completed, and yes that is bruising around my arm pit! :D

Am I the only money on here who is too hairy to have any?
Got a few tattoos. A half sleeve and the obligatory ex girlfriends name!
Agree with the Chav thing. Don't just get something because its in fashion. Think most of my home town had tribal tattoos in 2005.
A friend of mine gets tattoos when he travels and they all have a meaning or are symbolic.
Another friend has a tattoo of a toaster on his forearm and a picture of two cinema like tickets on his bicep with "gun show" written on them.
As long as you like them then who cares if the mean anything or not.

In my view alternative or chave is as bad as each other, if it means people can quickly judge you and put a label to you I'm not fond of it.
Both groups are generally people looking for a niche/ following whatever accepted them , so are likely to be unoriginal bits of 'bought personality'..apart from the proper hardcores. Oh wait now I'm judging!
See what it does to people?!
At a tattoo show in Cardiff a few years back there was the usual Chav group and the goth/emo type groups all looking at each others ink and what the artists were up to.
A little bald bloke in suit showed up who looked very out of place and stripped down to his bare chest to reveal the top half of a full body suit tattoo. He then jumped in the chair and got more work done. Not sure what label to put on him.

That'd be my other half. Apart from he's not small. Hairy, bald bloke in a suit. Only ever has tats that are above the elbow and below the collar.
He used to be a goth, had waist length hair, then it all migrated everywhere else instead

A female colleague had a nice one of a chain of elephants forming a ring around her bicep, trunk to tail with a baby one at the end like Jungle Book.
She said when she was old and saggy with wrinkly bingo wings the elephants would look more realistic which made me chuckle.

Nope, none. None of my family have any, none of my kids have either.
I am sorry to say that I cringe at tats. I understand that maybe they say something about your frame of mind of the time. But as my missus who has worked in care homes would say. Lets spread the folds and see whats it is. What do you mean it is a butterfly. It looks like a 747 from here.
Ok too P'd to defend my opinion. Sorry guys, it is self mutilation. you cannot undo it. 20 years on you have made a mistake. Live with it. Regret for the rest of your life is horrid.
Maybe you never do have that regret and fair do's, it is self expression. But when you have Tina on your wanking arm and the brides name is Anna, little you can do but say sorry love it is a mistake before I ever met you and don't mention the significance of where it is.
Lifes too short to worry about if ill regret something in 20 years time. I could get knocked off the bike and die tommorow so i may aswell do what i want while i can. And if im 80 and still about, ill probably think im happy to be alive, not worrying that i shouldnt of got a tattoo when i was a young whipper snapper

This is the only one of mine that means anything.
The Koi carp symbolise new beginnings and growing into something stronger.
The Cherry blossom symbolises short life. (I was in a bad accident, was very lucky and it made me rethink my life plans)
There are days I love it and days I hate it and days when I forget I even have it.
I used to hide it when I first met people for fear of their perception of me.
I think WB didn't see it for about a week after first meeting. I would wear long sleeves so that he knew me before the tattoo.
I did regret having it on my forearm at first but it's part of me now and I wouldn't get rid of it or hide it now.
I was asked whether I would use camouflage make-up for our wedding but I didn't want to look back at the photo's and wonder where my tattoos were. It wouldn't be me.

Ah lad, I have got my grandad head on. I have so many friends trying to justify their teen/forces/drunken tats to their mates. I just wonder how they justify them to themselves. most do seem to regret them as they are not the same person who had them done 30 odd years ago.

Just the one at the moment although wanting more but a lack of money and the wife practically begging me not to have so far dissuaded me. Oddly she likes tattoos but prefers to see them on people she doesn't have to see naked.
Having wanted one from an early age I'm glad to say I thoroughly researched having one before getting inked unlike my younger brother who hates all four if his (Chinese symbols, wonky tribals and a dodgy looking dragon) and saving up for cover ups.
Mine is my coat of arms/family name on my lower leg and I love it. Had it done 6 years ago just after my eldest was born at a reputable studio having looked into other places and artists. I must admit it took me years to choose it having considered tribals and other self penned designs. Even then i went through a variety of sizes and locations before finally deciding so perhaps that's why I'm so happy with it?

A care home's not the place to worry about what you look like! I know what my genes have in store for me and I'll be sitting in my own fudge and dribbling myself to sleep. If the only story my carer had about me is a rubbish tattoo ill be happy :)
For me as long as you like it that's the main thing, my issue is I worry I won't like it in 10 years, regretting who you were 10 years ago is different from changing tastes/ fading youth!

Nope, none. None of my family have any, none of my kids have either.
I am sorry to say that I cringe at tats
+1
The big ones look especially gross to me.
Cheesy art on your skin, it's like graffiti spray painted on the front of Buckingham Palace.
No it doesn't look really cool.
Each to his own I suppose.
I like this bike themed one (seen online, that's all)

My 16 year old daughter and most of her friends want tattoos. Arty ones, not big statements, but I think it is the Beckham/Jolie/Bieber/Cheryl Cole effect. I hate it (not the tatts themselves particularly, more the need to have one to stand out at that age)
Bit different from my dad whose tatts were inspired by the vices of the East End and West End underworld in the Daggers, snakes, hearts and ladies in the nud on rocks (why???).
I tried to get Fido Dido on a skateboard (It's cool to be clear) tattooed on my arm when I was in my 20's when on holiday in Turkey. Luckily I was too drunk too be allowed. I was of course gutted when 7Up dropped him from the adverts, what a fool I would have felt now (and about 2 hours after the tattoo too!). I like the pistons idea though
