so as of 31st of december i will be unrestricted meaning i can do track days, im looking at getting a track bike in the next month or two giving me the chance to get it up to scratch over the winter, i dont want to use the sv as this is my daily commute bike and if i bin it i'll have to way of getting to work, what bikes would you lot on here recommend? so far i've looked at gsxr600, r6 and zx6r, i dont need a 600 specifically but thought it would be best for me to get to grips with instead of jumping on a thou. cheers for any advice :D

Something cheap, disposable with plentiful parts and decent handling ability.

An SV650 with a decent shock, fork springs and emulators goes well, as would any GSXR/ZX6R/R6/CBR that suited your budget.

If you have any ideas about racing pick something that would suit a class you'd like to run in.

Power's nice but not as important as you might think.

i'd like to go 600's ideally as i've seen quite a few r6's i like, another reason i want to do this is that i find my self speeding on public roads quite a bit and i feel that if i get all the speed out of me on the track maybe it would slow me down on normal roads.

Another SV650 would make a great track bike that can be raced in Minitwins at a later stage if you were so inclined.

The track is the right place to have real fun on a bike.

For a bullet proof solution get a CBR 600, 40K on mine and its still a blast on trackdays.

Otherwise yes I would go with the SV, like others have said, its an easy route into racing once you get bored of trackdays. And the joy of passing "Bigger" bikes on track is great.

I find the more time you ride fast it just makes it feel normal. Hence most people speed when they come off motorways.

However I'm looking at track bikes at the moment and I'm going for the sv650 as I don't want crash at 160 mph, If Marc Marquez can crash on straight I'm sure I will ;)

sounds like what you need is a track ready SV. As it happens I have one for sale, see the 'Minitwin for sale' thread :D. Seriously, its great fun on track and allows you to learn about lines, braking and body position and whatnot rather than just hanging on for grim death which can happen with some more powerful bikes. Give it some thought and good luck.

If you can wait till back end of October you will have a wide choice as anyone who's changing classes or upgrading to a newer bike will be selling at the end of race season.
