Hi guys and gals, was thinking about jacking up the back end of my pointy to an extra 30 mm with shorter dog bones.
A. Will it make my suspension harder or softer
B. will it make the handling worse or quicker
Or will it do absolutely nothing.
Cheers guys.
I got 45mm jack up dog legs on my sv, it handles great, turns in a lot sharper, though I do have the forks dropped through 5mm too! Cant really say I noticed any difference in the stiffness of the spring but I do ride with a pretty hard setup anyway.
Give it a go, you can always change back.

Ordered will see what they are like. Paid 18 quid does that sound about right.
I take it you have the stock shock? Raising the rear changes the steering geometry. Yes quicker to steer but not necessarily better to ride. That depends on your weight in relation to the spring and things like sag. So if the intention is to use the shorter dog bones option as a way of improving the bike, I'd suggest you start by improving the components that affect handling and ride the most (i.e. better shock / fork components, better tyres etc). Set up your sag and then once you've fine tuned these things you can more easily tell whether changing the ride height geometry is a good or bad thing.

Will be bit by bit. Just not got bottom less pockets at moment.lol
Trying to get it to stay more weight forward when otherhalf is on the back really. Was hoping it would help in that area. Will try when they come. Looks pretty easy job to do.

Got my jack up dogs. Seems ok at the moment. Will know more when I go out for a thrash without the other half on.

Do you change your preload when riding with a pillion?
i might have this the wrong way round but reducing the length of the dogbone increases the rising rate so you end up using less force and distance to move the stroke of the damper rod in the shock.

From my experience with pillions until I firmed up the forks I couldn't crank up the rear preload much as the front just dive bombed any time I braked or even rolled off some throttle. But as you said that costs more than dogbones!

I have my front pre load at max and rear 2 notches before max. But don't change between taking her and not. She makes me ride very sensibly. Lol

Try putting some more preload on the rear when taking a pillion. My other half weighs 9st, works out to be 4turns on my preload collar. But that will vary with springs and pillion weight etc. Try both notches you have left. You might be surprised how much difference it makes to the front end. If as nutsinatin says, you find the front diving. It might be worth getting different rate springs in the forks, to give you the adjustment you need. Have you checked your sag?

Sags not much with just me. Will be getting better front end soon as money is better. Lol
Would rather get it nice with just me on it and leave it as is with oh on back. Only go like a saint with oh on back or else she moans I am to fast, to close to other cars or leaning over to far round bends so again to fast so only really pootling along lol.
