Morning All

So my better half bought me a new lid for my birthday yesterday which is pinlock ready.

I used it for the first time today and it was raining and the visor steams up, these pinlock things are supposed to cure that, are they worth the £20?

Cheers

Visor hasn't steamed up at all since inserting the pinlock. Even in winter

Never had a problem with pinlocks, always clear summer or winter.

From new I think they are great, I seem to find replacing them I never get the fit just right and they leave a gap which means they fog up...

Oh I like the idea of the hi viz / anti glare ones for raining and night riding, and the ones that tint when the sun comes out but that one is bl00dy expensive!

Ayup, fitted mine to my AGV myself, not had any issues with fogging at all!

ah I just found this (http://www.pinlock.nl/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/Adjusting-Lens-tension.pdf)which shows how to adjust the tension of the insert, this could be the reason why my replacements did not seal very well...

As I and other have mentioned, highly recommend the pinlock inserts.

as for are they worth £20 - YES being able to see, and not having to clearing the inside with your glove, potentially scratching the visor...

i would not use a visor without it now.

Moved to bike talk...

As the others have said, they just work.

That said, my clear visor for my arab chaser has started failing after 3 years so tried the pinlock out of my tinted visor and that failed too so not sure if the pinlocks need replacing or the visor.

Love the Pinlock system, no misting or fogging even on the most wet/damp journeys to work

Next question lol.

Would the pinlock visor for my new Shark S700S be the same as the Shark S700 as that's all I can find, they look very similar if not identical.

Dunno mate try look on race visors etc and see

my arab chaser

Is that a specialist product?

I agree with the above comments, have a look on http://www.racevisors.co.uk/ or similar, I'm just looking at buying a new clear visor for my lid as the old one's got a little scratched and in low sun it's not as sharp as it used to be. Wouldn't be looking at one without a pinlock now.

Another positive report from me. Would not be without it, especially on these moist days.

My only complaint is that the optical clarity is slightly lacking. This is most noticeable at night; you get another set of reflections and the edge of the pinlock also catches the light. Not a huge problem but I do occasionally find myself flipping it up at night to avoid it.

Got one for £17.99 from pinlockshop.co.uk, cheapest I could find.

Cheers for the heads up on racevisors!!! I was thinking I would have to get a new lid for pin lock but had a quick look on there and they now do pin lock visors for mine! And at not that much more than I got my last normal replacement, including the insert!

Cheers peeps :-)

They do a universal kit aswell which fits a standard visor, requires drilling your visor though :-S

Just got a new lid which hasn't come with a Pinlock and I noticed the difference straight away while out on the road so just about to purchase a new one, can't stand riding without one. Being able to see, as someone has said, is kind of important :-P

When it's cold and raining...

Glasses + pinlock = less than ace.

Daily contacts + pinlock = fan flipping tastic.

Check and see if Rain X Anti Fog is safe to use on your glasses. It is for use on glass so should be ok.

I've had 3 pinlocks on my Shoei and they all still get steamed up. I have to hold my breath at junctions which can be tricky if it's a slow set of traffic lights. It's as though they don't seal properly. Then again my Shoei leaks in the rain too, and if I put on the whisper kit my glasses steam up so badly I can't see anything. So I switch to my Caberg which hasn't got a pinlock and doesn't fog up at all.

Found pinlocks don't last forever, have had to replace after 18 months. Also had a visor fail to seal after one change - all i can think is the wee holes in visor are slightly oval and therefore not providing enough pressure even when fully adjusted, had to replace visor.

There still brilliant. Just need changing every so often.

I had a Caberg before this and it was awful, I could never fully shut the visor as it would steam up instantly. The new Shark is better but does still steam up but the chin vent seems to be effective at clearing it, mind you you have to be moving.

Will let you know how I get on with the pinlock when it comes, hoping its as good as people are saying as I ride all year round so would be very useful.

My caberg shouldn't have fogged up, it was that fookin draughty. Still did though.

Sounds like the visor mech on your shoei is just badly adjusted.

Got a shark vision r that fogs up very easily. Think ill be investing in pin lock now the temperatures are beginning to drop. Tried the anti fog spray but it wasn't much good.

I use a AGV K4 during the summer months with a tinted visor(when it's all sunny riding) but the shark has an integrated sun visor so is a better choice when the days are shorter (dark ride to work in morning, bright low sun on way home in afternoon).

Off the back of this thread just bought a new Arai visor and clear pinlock insert as unfortunately both were getting a bit scratched after 4 years of service.

Not cheap, but with winter coming I know what a scratched and fogged-up visor can do for your ability to anticipate hazards...

Your fortunate you don't have glasses.
Its a royal pain. All the trick sprays are no better than washing up liquid.
Much prefer contackts on the bike .better feild of vision ,but make my eyes look like pin holes:-|

I have the reactive insert in my Arai. Yes it's expensive but worth it if you don't have an integral sun visor and don't want to stop every time the sun comes out to swap glasses or put sunnies on. My glasses steamed up in the rain at the weekend but not my visor, and the insert is about three years old now.

Ordered mine last night, sick of a misty visor when sat at lights, it was either that or stop breathing.

Had some minor fogging issues with my (now the mrs helmet) XR1100 but never had any in my neotec, although the neotec also has an insert to cover the nose which probably helps

Anyone using the yellow inserts for night / rainy weather riding? Just wonder whether it's worth getting one for the winter months?

Also what are the yellow inserts like on a sunny day with / without an integral sun visor in place?

My old man has one in his visor, uses it day/night and all year round. Takes the edge off bright lights during sunny days and at night.

Might just be worth a punt then, maybe make a nice xmas pressy :)

I do find oncoming traffic headlights a royal pain sometimes, might just do the trick!

So got my pinlock today but im after some advice.

I have a Shark S700 but the pinlock they sent says its for a Shoei CX7-1 visor also says Pinlock DKS2. I gather they must fit multiple visors. I reluctant to open it until I can find out, my order says clear pinlock for Shark S700.

Cheers

Offer it up against your visor and see if it looks like it'll fit, width ways and also into the 'visible' section on your visor you look through. Also check it won't catch on the top/bottom of the visor where it sits against the helmet.

all someone needs to invent next is how to stop rain sticking to the inside of a visor .
that's dam annoying when you flip it down in the rain ...

so just thought i would see what everyone thoughts are on these, recently got a hjc ben spies helmet that comes with two visors both pinlock ready and as i use my bike all year round it is ideal for me. the mornings are getting colder and my old visor would mist up but the insert is bl*ody genius! although you field of vision isn't as great they really do work so well :) big up the creator of this

I'm pleased with mine too. No fogging etc :D

Only thing I've noticed is that the insert distorts lights a bit more when riding at night but not so much as to be a problem. Just me or anyone else noticed this?

Yes I have noticed but it does not bother me, also if you look at the seal it can create a double image but you just have to make more of an effort to move you head lol.

Best invention ever, rode 45mins in torrential rain week before last and it did not fog at all!

The only.thing id improve is its tendancy for its seal to stick .
PIA when you swop a tint to clear back and forth .

Luckily I have a shark vision R so the integral sun visor takes care if that issue.

The main reason I bought the vision R was I got bored of swapping visors and having to carry a spare.

I work shift so regularly commute one way in sunshine and return journey in dark etc.

My previous lid (AGV K4) now wears a dark visor permanently and is kept for summer use.
