Good afternoon,
I am thinking of getting a sat nav mount for my bike and trying to keep the cost minimul at the same time have something reliable which doesn't always work. What you pay is what you get.
So anyways, I am thinking of getting the stem mount which goes inside the whole of the yoke where the yoke nut is . In order to buy one of below which is £30 , I also need to change my nut to something that has open end or hole in the middle just then being able to insert the mount in there.
Does anyone know what is the nut specs in terms of picth length etc . All I know it needs 32mm socket to open . Have found some on ebay for £21 but they seem very expensive or maybe that is the usual. it is in my view for a simple nut which would cost £1 to produce
sat nav I am thinking of getting

the nut

is it an M24 with spanner size of 32mm if so I can probably buy the gsxr ones which are cheaper.
I am just searching by sv650 name hence maybe the gsxr and sv are the same but different price

How about one of these?
velcro's to the top yoke & has a visor to help with seeing the sat nav.
Its been reduced in price since I bought one for bannanaman, £9.99 is a bargain
Not nut required

the bag is velcro's stripe ? maybe that is not very reliable and not worth risking my iphone on it
I know there are also magnetic bags around but again at 100 miles or more or even below that if they come off I am screwed

Got a similar one off Ebay, works a treat but without a Bluetooth sat nav and headset I couldn't hear instructions but mainly used it to make sure I was on the right road. Sorry I digress, the one I had had two long straps that wrap around the yoke and hold it in place, I couldn't get a snug for so it moved a few cms but it wasn't going anywhere else!
If you are thinking of using your iPhone, there are cases out there that will protect the phone and have mounts available, I got a lifeproof case for my 5 and am considering getting the bike mount for it, it clips to the handle bar and holds the phone firmly in place in its waterproof case. Just need to work out how to make it fit as my bars are a bit crowded!

Have a look at the biologic iPhone handle bar case, I've got one and for the most part it's cracking, In very bright sunlight it can be a bit hard too see but that's about it.
Here's a video(not me) and some pictures of mine.

The velcro's industrial stuff so pretty reliable.
But this case is the wrong shape for an Iphone

Your logic is a bit flawed, you want to keep the cost down, but want to use your Iphone as the sat nav, but are scared of losing it should the bag fly off at high speed?
Spend the money on a decent mount for you Iphone or get a cheap sat nav and then you won't worry about losing it so much?
What Iphone are you running mate? I might have one of those biologic cases and mounting hardware with different branding lying around.

You can put it in the map pocket of a mag tank bag.
My one even has a clear base just for maps

The OP is worried about magnetic tank bags flying off at speed, so your suggestion & mine aren't any use
Then he needs to stop going over 220mph when he doesn't know were he is going ;) .

lol , I won't go that fast, lots of good advise , thanks all
I decided to go down the route of getting stem nut and then stem mount .
I Spent £22 on this
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310663848648?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649
and £32 on sat nav mount which was way higher than expected.
the nut seems very light as said in the ebay listing but I am worried It may not be able to take 100nm torque as suggested by haynes manual . is it any good? excuse me if this is a noob question but don't know how tough anodised aluminume is
100Nm is allot for alloy .seams hi anyway I thought my Curveys one was 80 Nm?
id contact the seller and check that it's correct .
