View Full Version : Adding grip pads to side of tank.
Not long had my bike and wanted a bit more grip on the sides of the tank so have added a couple of mobile phone grip pads which are normally used on car dashboards.
They are great as they stick without adhesive, can be repositioned at will and a quick wash in warm soapy water restores the grip properties. Once fitted I usually dab the outer face with a cloth to reduce the tackiness so that your knee position can be adjusted and then grip the tank through pressure rather than sticking on contact.
Just £1.50 each from ebay and delivered in a couple of days.

Nice idea and they suit your bike too, how about a link to the seller you used for anybody that wants some?
Ebay item no. 280808159005
Just checked and they still have these. Loads of sellers offering the same sort of thing and some are even cheaper. Lots of colours too!

Any update to how effective they are? Can you just remove them without damaging the paint?

Bought them exact ones and placed on the side of the tank just like the OP.
What can I say, most useful £3 I've ever spent. Very very effective, will peal off easily, they're not exactly sticky, more tacky.
Would definitely recommend!

Bit off topic but...
I don't normally like nekids but I have to say Lew... Very nice!
Interesting colour, don't think I have seen that before!
Now back on topic...
Have either of you ridden in rain with them yet? Do they still adhere to the bike when you and it are wet?
I like the mirrors, do they still give as good a view of the elbows as the originals?
An update on mine. They do stay on in the rain, but coming back from Birmingham at the weekend noticed that at cruising speed in the dry one of the pads was lifting slightly in one corner. Got home peeled them both off, washed them in a bowl of warm soapy water, cleaned the tank and reapplied. Now all ok. Think I hadn't removed all the autoglym polish when fitting them initially. The wash in soapy water is advised by the manufacturer to renew the original tackiness and it definitely works.
Like the orange and black by the way!
Orange and black is probably my favorite colour combination. Definitely stands out.

Thanks for the comments all!
The mirrors are by far the best ones I've used. £25 off fleaBay or something, the view of behind is surprisingly good, and they don't budge at all. Even at 125mph (on the track, obviously ;) )
The colour is something I got done not so long back. It's classed as 'ST orange', from the Ford Focus ST. It's actually a two tone but can never seem to pick it up on camera.
Now back on topic, the grips are by far the best £3 I've spent on this bike.

Okay. Update number 2:
I took this thing out for one of the best rides I've ever been on yesterday through some twisties. It sure as hell put a smile on my passengers face.
The downside to this is it's chewed up these pad things..

May need moving forward a bit so that your knee contacts the centre rather than the edge?

Yeh I'm thinking that.
I'll give it a go and see how it copes
