View Full Version : Autumn season ride-outs

Bit quiet in here these days now all the general abuse and chatter has moved to other places. Summer's pretty much gone so now it's time to start sorting the men from the boys, the wheat from the chaff and the curds from the whey and get some potentially damp autumnal rides going for us manly, wheaty curdish types.

I'm out for the next couple of weekends due to other commitments but luckily there have been loads of us riding in here during the "summer" so no excuses for waiting for someone else to sort something.

How about one of the newer GMers sorting something out. A Loomies loop doesn't count so get your map out and work something out. Job or I can help you with the planning if you are bothered about it but basically, a start point/time, some idea of where you want to go and an ability to make it up as you go along usually does the job.

Get to it folks!

I'll try and sort something out late September/early October if I am fit and healthy by then.

I might well do this weekend or week. I'm looking to once again expand my horizons and go to roads I've not ridden in a while. May even throw in a one night weekend away!

I have a heated vest. I can do Autumn. Dry Autumn, not wet Autumn. I'll organise something. It will be **** though and I will get lost.......

Good test of the new guards mettle!;)

Lets see how many are prepared to knock the ice off the bike and still attend a rideout regardless of the below zero temperatures?:notworthy:

Me, now I have a heated vest. Trousers and armoured gloves come out this season aswell. possibly get the heated soles. Will be a toasty bunny :)

I'm guessing all your new gear is pink ;) only girls need anything more than heated grips

Cold is ok, wear more layers.
Wet is ok, wear waterproofs.
Cold and wet is ok for riding to work but its no fun at all.
And icy conditions, well that's just ****ing stupid really

Having done a combo of Acerbis handguards, fairing 'wind deflectors', and heated grips on my last bike, I'm keeping it simple this winter and going for handlebar muffs.

Bunch of Pu55ie5. There is no such thing as bad weather, just poor planning and kit. (except ice. That stuff is as bad as peado-bear for messing you up)

There was a ok looking loop in Slipstream that goes around oxford basically. I'd lead it, but I have no navigational Aid. If getting lost is really part of the adventure, I'll print out an OS map and stick it to my tank. Navigate old-skool.

In fact edit that. I will lead the ride in a couple of weeks, will post a date when I know I have a free day. If you don;t want to ride it, organise a better one.

Some of those routes in slipstream look good. I can download the route straight to the satnag as well.

Where's the adventure. I guess that would be you deciding to exit the A303 with 25 yards. From the outside lane.

What?! And you failed to inform me you're crossing the border? No red carpet for you then!

Orrrrr, many a rideout happening on Saturday and Sunday if you care to join us in Sunny South Wales.

I'm off to enjoy the autumnal delight that is the Lake district at the Weekend for the first time.

Anybody else planned any autumn rides yet?

I think Si's planing on riding his thumb but he does that daily so it's not really an autumn ride

I'm going to run the tough mudder in crickhowell on the Saturday and if its anything like that last one I wont be in much of a state for spirited riding afterwards.

That said I'll check on the forum Saturday night (internet permitting) as I may be able to force my aching body round a few lanes before I head home on the Saturday as long as it's not too early.
