View Full Version : Bike gathering dust :(

It's now been a month since I locked the bike up and put a cover on it before I went off on holiday. I also see no opportunity of getting to get out on it for the remainder of September due to work and my weekends being consumed by family activities.

Anyone else had such a long lay-off when the weather is good, bike's not broken, cash is available and there is nothing medical keeping you off the bike?

Weddings. Bloody weddings. Between the stag do and the actual wedding I only got out on the bike twice last month. Not helped by the fact it was stored in a friends garage so takes a bit of effort to co-ordinate retrieving it.

I was the same so started riding to work and if it is dry I will take a more bendy/quieter route home.

Just have to make the effort in the morning to
-move car that's blocking in the bike
-take cover and various locks off bike
-move bike forward
-reverse car back
-push bike back onto drive
-pre ride checks (sometimes)
-pack top box
-get gear on

Far easier to jump in the car

Fun rides are like that for me most of the time. But I commute on it. Hopefully once I have my car sold I'll be able to buy a Tiger 800, and can get out for rides with Mrs clunk a bit. If I can get it sold in time, hoping to go out to Ireland in october.

Buy some good waterproofs.

I was gonna get some Furygan textiles, and I have an oversuit. Unless there are better textiles I should get for the money (probably about 3-400 squids).

Not gone on any rideouts in what seems like ages, but this loop to henley and surrounding roads are pretty cool. I'm still in the market for our autumnal and winter rideouts, especially now this year I'm equipped with the rst suit and heated grips on the tiger. Just need to get myself a helmet with pinlock as steaming up weather is fast approaching!

I've not been out on it due to medical reasons. I realised how bad the situation when I checked my progress on fuelly. I usually average 7 fill ups and 1200 miles, so far I've not completed a fill up this month! Doubtful i'll be able to go out the next week at least. So September looks like a total wash out :(

I haven't ridden my SV for several weeks. For good reason too.

Fallout - rather than a new helmet.... what about http://www.racevisors.co.uk/product/accessories-pinlock-universal-diy

I fitted one of these to an HJC lid a few years ago, and it worked very well.

I may have to do that Ian. Kind of sick of my clear visor fogging up with the slightest temp change. It doesn't stay cracked at over 30mph either. Only problem is it is treated with an anti-fog layer, but being about 3 years old now, that's probably all gone, and maybe I can scrub the rest off. May have to do it for this winter.

Lazer helmets are actually really good. Try one and you'll see.

I think this might be what Gav is refering to.

I really like my Shoeis but I am aware they are a little pricey. Having a little problem recently with the clear visor on the Qwest, cannot seem to get it clean. Might have to hake it off and clean the whole thing properly. With soap and water like. No issues with misting really, with the pinlock inserted.

I have tried them, quite thoroughly. I had one come off in a spill and it was one of the higher priced ones, lost my front teeth and fractured my jaw among other things. When it comes to your head its wise not to skimp, after all you do get what you pay for.

I'm after a shoei xr next. Fed up of arai.

Don't scrimp on gear that might not do the proper job...it's Shoei helmets for me, they last, they fit my head, they are generally quiet, they look good and most importantly they seem to work well for anyone crashing in them....I haven't seen a bad story about them yet.....

As Gav says, Lazer/Box/Stealth/Arioh etc, I wouldn't touch with a barge pole. At the end of the day, its all that's between your noggin and the road in a crash. I went down head first, and I hate to think what would have happened in a cheap, Plastic shelled lid. Let alone if I was going faster than I was. Spend as much as you can afford up to a max of around £300 IMO Any more and you start paying for the sticker on the front.

Went out today for the first time in two months with Daddyjob, Fallout and Tomor. Any thoughts about hanging up my boots and selling the bike are now well and truly dismissed. Bikes are brilliant!

Even rubbish bikes are brilliant! It was nice to get out. I don't think I've been for a ride for the sake of a ride in a while.

Ride for the sake of a ride?

It was very purposeful. I had to judge the "nice bum" competition, Tomor had to speed check a pheasant, you had to prove once and for all that a GSX-R, a Volvo AND a trailer could all fit round the same blind bend in opposite directions at the same time and his Jobbiness had to prove he can still look enigmatic while limping.

How dare you suggest we just ride for fun. Especially as some of the girlier elements of the .ORG are declaring the riding season to be over.

I think we make have some more chores coming up next weekend which we may coincidently have to execute on bikes.

I'm game. I found it a tad nippy today so I just put the heated grips onto setting 1. There are 5 more settings, 5 thermal t-shirts and my crab claw gloves yet to be utilised. Weather ain't nuttin' yet.

It was nice in the afternoon, but riding home at 7pm it had substantially nippified. 12c tomorrow apparently.

Bike is nearly prepped for winter now, and I am not far from being at full health. Hoping the weather picks up a bit more. I don't fancy riding in the rain all the time!
