You funny feckers!! Minimorecambe that hurt giggling:-) Spank I blame you!
Laurie's daughter is going off to uni and I'm going to give her a lift there
With Laurie's daughter moving so far away from home I'm unsure if we should invest in a caravan to park behind the shopping centre or depend upon local B&Bs from now on? At least we no longer have to listen out for parents coming home unexpectedly.
Laurie's daughter is going off to uni and I'm going with her.

Ok. Serious question, as we have the thread anyway.
I currently have two jobs, one I enjoy and one that pays better.
In the one that pays better there may be potential for an area managers position at some point in the future (maybe).
In the one I enjoy, I have been offered a full time position of 35hrs per week at a couple of pence above minimum wage. To start in the next couple of months.
Any thoughts? Or what would you guys do in the same position?
ClunkintheUK

Depends if you can pay rent, food, petrol, missus and save a little each month on a few pence over minimum wage.
Matt-EUC
16-09-13, 04:21 PM
I must also mention that the minimum wage job has potential to become a management job too. Eventually.

Doesn't matter if you are on the streets before you get to management.

Although the saving isn't possible. I didn't add that into my equations.

Having been someone who has chased salary all their career, I'd say go for the one you enjoy. If it pays well enough. The potential for promotion is largely irrelevant when it comes to jobs until you are promoted. I am however a cynic.
Matt-EUC
16-09-13, 04:27 PM
Cynicism can be useful.
You're going to hate any job if you do it long enough. Chase the money and do what you enjoy as a hobby
The Idle Biker
16-09-13, 07:36 PM
Do the one you enjoy for now. Train for something much much better in the future.
Slightly contradicting the above but the best way to make more money is to move to new jobs at least once in every 3 years.
Do what you enjoy. I used to have silly money but my work life was miserable as i had hardly anytime off and got sent all over the place without any warning. Now I'm skint but I work a piece of **** shift rotation in a job I enjoy a lot more than my last one.
Matt-EUC
16-09-13, 08:01 PM
I wouldn't mind a ****ty job with ****ty hours for silly money. As long as I got Sundays off.

every good job turns ****, i used to love mine. Now i could quite happily chuck most people into the machinery, i hate it. Unless I work by myself with tune's, then I'm happy.
I worked my way up and now get paid relatively well but it's not without its stress, most of the time now i tell other people to do stuff. But im a real harda55 so the one's that don't do their work don't like me.
But im a real larda55 so the one's that don't do their work I sit on.
Fixed for you.
Oh and it's swings and roundabouts mate. I would go with Laurie's suggestion. Do the one you enjoy for now and train up and seek out a better paid job you also enjoy in the mean time.
ClunkintheUK
18-09-13, 11:57 AM
I also agree with Laurie. (sorry to +1 you).
Do something that you enjoy, but work at it. Don't treat is like a hobby. Learn as much as you can, if the manager is a lazy ar5e do his job for him and don't complain, but make sure his boss knows. If your boss is not lazy, do his job for him anyway or make his easier so he can do his lazyar5e managers job. When he gets promoted, you get promoted into his job. This is hard work and you'll probably stop enjoying what you were originally doing but do it well and you'll stop doing it (like Gav) and tell other people to do it. Doing something you enjoy (At least from the outset) will give the motivation to work at it. I for one chose a career based purely on how much it paid as I did not know what I wanted to do and I won't reach the higher pay as I do not have the motivation to learn more about finance or go the extra step.
