View Full Version : Who knew Glasgow was so pretty?

I'd gone to Glasgow for my Brothers Engagement party and expected to have quite a bit of time to take pictures but only ended up with an hours shooting time late one night. I wasn't disappointed though:

The highlight was perhaps my 4 or 5 shot panorama of the North bank of the Clyde adorned with (from left to right) The Crown Plaza Hotel, The Armadillo, The Hydro, The Clydeport Crane, our hotel and then the Clyde Arc (known locally as "The Squinty Bridge") 30 second exposures throughout and merged in Photoshop.

I had to use the distort feature to "correct" it a little so that the riverbank was horizontal, it curved and didn't look right so I straightened it (to the detriment of a couple of things but the image looks better overall)

Another panorama (as my lens wasn't wide enough) only two images this time:

I'd had 5 minutes to check out the view from the squinty bridge earlier that day but the weather was rubbish but it did give me an idea for a later shot:

This was as far as I got, I walked back down the other side from here:

Long lens required for this as it is moored quite a way down river from where I was:

Really impressed for a long exposure on a very gusty location , guess the IS in the lens did something useful.

Our hotel and the squinty bridge:

I was disappointed the night version of this shot didn't look nearly as well reflected or interesting. The apartments behind really add to the shape of the shot.

Anyway, thanks for looking. I need to get back to Glasgow sometime as I've barely scratched the surface.

Great shots! All look very familiar as I can see my workplace in a couple of your pictures :)

Cool, which building?

I still can't get over how surprised I was that it was so photogenic, not that I expected it to be ugly, just that I was ignorant of it's attractiveness. I love reflections, architecture and nice lighting so this ticked all the boxes for me.

In your BBC Scotland picture to the left is a new hotel being built then a little office building where I spend most of my days...

Yeah it's a nice bit of town at night, see a lot of photographers down there. I look out over the river and on still days the reflections are pretty awesome. Only pic I have though is from when the Clyde was (thinly) frozen over a few winters back!

Chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool
And all shooting some b-ball outside of the school
When a couple of guys, they were up to no good
Started making trouble in my neighbourhood
I got in one little fight and my mom got scared
And said "You're moving with your auntie and uncle in Bel-air"

:offtopic: but couldn't help it !!!

I whistled for a cab and when it came near
The license plate said fresh and it had dice in the mirror
If anything I could say that this cab was rare
But I thought 'Nah, forget it' - 'Yo, homes to Bel Air'

I pulled up to the house about 7 or 8 and I yelled to the cabbie "yo homes smell ya later" I looked at my kingdom, I was finally there. To sit on my throne as the Prince of Bel-Air!
:-) had to be done
