Does anyone know for sure if they are the type which can capture bikes?
Had a ride over that way this morning in blissfull ignorance that such a camera existed...
Many thanks!

This is an old article granted but they seem to think they were meant to catch cameras!
I'm not local so have no idea of the road but it's still an interesting wee read!

To ask if they are working, or to ask if you were caught speeding?!

Why not wait and see if the postman drops anything through in the next 2 weeks

Both
The issue I have is how many times If I have been caught, as I understand it each set of cameras class as a different offence!
I'd rather not wait to find that out...

TBH I doubt they'd tell you over the phone, even 24 hours after the event. For all you know they could all be off and used as a deterrent.
Why ask if you've been caught speeding, if you're calling them to find out that's admitting you were.

They are average speed cameras yes? So they take an average of your speed across the length and then you get an NIP which will contain your average speed. Unless you went through 10 Gatsos it will be counted as one offence.

Our domesticated coppers will correct me if I'm wrong. Where's RedHerring when you need him...

If you were caught, it doesn't matter how many cameras you went through over the limit, as they can only do you for one offence per stretch of road, as the a537 is one road you could go through them all and it's still a singular offence. Coops

You called......they convict you for each offence, but you only get one set of points on your licence (3 to 6 points) if they are all heard at the same time. Average speed cameras tend to get treated as one long offence (provided it's the same system), setting off individual Gatsos is one per camera.

Not a great fan of how they police the Cat and Fiddle. Lazy gits should get out there and do it properly with a bit of community engagement. A few well placed snipers would be more acceptable in my view than bombing an entire population......

Nice analogy there RH

So, kinda a bit off-topic, with average speed cameras is your speed averaged out between two cameras or over all of the cams you pass through?

Like if I motored down a 50mph stretch at 60mph between the first three cams and then crawled through another three at 30mph would I be OK as my average speed over all six would be less than 50mph, or would I get done for speeding through the first three and then pointlessly annoyed all the motorists behind me for the last three? Ha!

You'd be the first one, they might shower you in confetti and give you a bottle of champagne

In average camera areas you are measured over the whole distance and between each camera and over sections.

Say there are four cameras; I'll call them A, B, C, & D.

You're measured between A & B, A & C, A & D, B & C, B & D and C & D.

Also, they are calibrated to speed limit + 10% + 1mph, so, in a 40mph zone anything above 45mph is a NIP.

"Normal" speed cameras are currently set to S.L. + 10% + 3mph, so, using 40 mph again, you can travel up to 47mph without it going off.

I actually like riding the Cat and Fiddle with those cameras on as they let you concentrate on the corners, which is what that road is all about.

You don't seem to see it now but when they first started working (after they'd sorted out the hilarous blunder re the short cut) you'd see the hardcore sports riders pulling up for a few minutes in each section to beat them.

Appreciate the replies

I have called to see if I've been done before, they do tell you if there is anything outstanding, but nothing else!

As I now understand the cameras on the cat and fiddle are working, are rear facing so capable of catching bikes!
Plan to call them tomorrow (it's no admission of guilt, so nothing to loose in that respect)

Hopefully RH is correct about the number of offences. I have read elsewhere since, that each set of cameras is classed as one incident of speeding, and the next another.. Which is the origins of my main concern!

Honestly I'm not sure how you missed them! They aren't exactly well hidden!

What those big yellow cameras on those big yellow poles?? :smt046

Didn't miss them, ignored them as I was blissfully unaware that you could be clocked on a bike by them :smt115
