View Full Version : Need a reason to get out there?

In a moment inspired by recent threads here....

I'm proposing a long term game to clock up some miles and get out on the roads.

So here's the idea...

Set a start date, location type or two, end date a few months down the line from that. The winner is whoever clocks up the most tags. Take a pic of you/bike there by a sign to prove it.

Im initially suggesting the topics are castles and distilleries as these are numerous and scattered throughout Scotland - so there is hopefully at least one near you to start you off. Most are well known or well signposted if you're touring about.

If anyone has another subject then feel free to suggest it, or questions about the rules.

There won't be a preset hitlist to target and it's not just first person to a location steals it (unlike the Street Name Game), so use your brain or google-foo if you must to find those hidden jems.

Who's up for it. I might even have an appropriate prize. ;)

to save all the hassle you should just give me the prize now :-)

sounds fun, pity it's getting near the end of the season. i passed a few castles and load of distillery's on sunday.

use your brain...
But it hurts when I use my blern. :(

OK, OK, I pass a distillery once a week and there's a castle just up the road, I'm in.

Sucks. I'm a midlander, but I'll give it a shot.

Hey if it really takes off we could have regional competitions :D
Not so many distilleries round by you mind.

Does it have to be castles and distilleries in Scotland or can it be anywhere, and do we have to include mileages to get there. It could be two different challenges...

I did wonder about the mileage aspect, but I reckoned it's difficult to keep tally/verify so left that out.

Our local bike club did roughly the same game many many moons ago, which got everybody buzzing around Speyside trying to out-do each other - so I just thought it might be fun to resurrect. We did distilleries back then and I managed to find Jamesons, I think it was, in Dublin. So I see no reason not to include other areas this time.

James, wanna explain motogocaching to me? Intrigued. Actually I thought about adding film locations, after seeing your Skyfall photo. Great that you managed to compose the shot almost exact to the film. Was that a fluke or on purpose?

Hey matey, I DO but we're about a 3/4 baw-hair away from going live with it proper. Suffice to say though, it's going to be really, really cool when it does kick off. I'll drop the details into here first (as always, cos I'm damn nice like that) of course.

We'd been up at Fort Bill for a bit of a jolly and one of the younger lads had done a bit of digging the night before and realised we were going to be very close to where it was taken.

A wee diversion, a lot of huddling around iphones and a little bit of luck with the misty weather later and we got it pretty much bang on!

Such a cool place down there, well worth a little detour (albeit the road/track isn't exactly racing tarmac).

I'm looking forward to it. I've heard of geocaching so that combined with motorbiking has to be good surely!!
I'm watching this space! :)
