View Full Version : Tacho drive blanking plug for an old z750?

I'm going to be junking the tacho on my z750e project bike and I'm wondering what the best way is to blank off the tacho drive.

I think I could take out the little cable driver wossname and then use the screw on bit off the cable with a bit of scrap to fill the hole but that seems like a bit of a bodge.

Any ideas from the mechanically gifted on the forum?

Thanks,

Mark

Have I asked this question before? Or has someone just fiddled with the matrix?

Use the screw on part, stick a tap washer, rubber foot, or other rubber item that'll seal it in there.
Job done.
Apparently a drilled out M18 bolt also works, but not seeing the bike i wouldn't know.

Some later engines - not just 750cc but larger and smaller used a blanking plug in that spot when they went to electrical instruments, go and ask a Kawasaki dealer I'm sure they'll be able to help.

I have a memory of the same thing on some Suzukis that fits too, but I can't remember which models right now, I shall have a think.

In the end I plumped for the expensive but lovely option from the Z1 Enterprises website in the US. Looks like it will turn out to cost about £35.00 so it had better be as pretty as it looks on the photos...

As usual I also found out after I'd already ordered from Z1 that Debben make tacho drive blanks for about a third of the price. Mind you, they don't look anywhere near as pretty!

Thanks,

Mark

Glad you found a solution...You always find something less expensive later though, it's the nature of the beast.
