did this start before or after the new plugs?

are you on a restriction?

what kind of restriction, washers or ECU?

and no they would not balance TB's or set the TPS on a service.

i just had to turn my screw to get it to run comfortably but it now smells a little more strongly of petrol.. its a washer restriction which i guess could help with these symptoms but it hasnt always been like this.
would the throttle balance maybe help? any idea how much garages usually charge?

What was done at the last service will depend on mileage and to some extent the garage in question. The throttles and TPS may or may not have been adjusted. They're certainly worth a check and not hard to do.

As I understand it the bike has 33,000 miles, is restricted via washers, and has been fine up until about 300 miles ago?
So far in response to this issue you've cleaned the air filer (how?). That's all correct?

Have you fitted any other components of late (stubby clutch levers, performance parts etc)?

you should not be smelling petrol.

i would hazard a guess that it's the restriction kit that is causing some of your problems.

price for a balance... how long is a piece of string, £60+

if the bike has been running fine then started using a lot more petrol and running poo then it's needing a proper service/looked at.

how often does it get an oil and filter change?
when was the last time you checked the oil level?
are you sure that you installed the spark plugs correctly?
are you sure that you installed the plug caps back on correctly?

when installing spark plugs they should screw all the way down easily by hand then tighten by tool for the last turn or so. you can also over tighten a spark plug and crack the thread of the plug.

some spark plugs come with the 'nipple' attached at the top and you have to remove this to show the threads, if you don't remove this then the plug cap wont go on properly.

when did all your problems start happening?

Mostly stock besides k&n air filter
Cleaned using guidelines on k&n cleaning kit
Yeah only cleaned the filter didn't know what else might be doing it
Possibly clogged fuel lines/filter?

I have a curvy 650 that with the new 46.6hp restriction. Ran ok for a while then started bogging down and not running right plus smelt of petrol like yours and was spitting fuel back into airbox

Turned out it was combination of a crappy vacuum pipe going onto the fuel petcock, and the washer restrictors.

Whipped those out and clamped the pipe down and now it goes like a dream.

my advice for what it's worth is to take it to someone who knows what they are doing and just pay the cash.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but how have you got the bike restricted to 46 bhp? I didn't realise they had brought out a kit for the curvy? Or is is the 33bhp kit and you have a 46bhp license?

I to have the very same situation as you, got my bike on Saturday all seemed fine on the very short test ride but last night when I decided to take the bike for a quick ride it was idling very inconsistent between 900 & 1200 rmp and it cut out on me a few time.

it's an 04 plate with 34k on the clock, I've just booked it in for the TB's to be balanced and a full service, there is no history with it so not sure when it was last done, is there anything else I should be looking at? hopefully the balance and service with new plugs will sort the problem but open to any other ideas.
