View Full Version : October Photo Comp - October Theme is "Your Best Photo Ever" Vote OFF
Well Go for it boys and girls :p
I'm not sure if it's my best, I didn't spend loads of time setting it up, it just came out nice.
One of my favourite, most peaceful places to be.

600D with canon 10-22mm, B+W KSM XSPRO polariser and Cokin Grad ND. Could have done with Darker hard ND filter as the sky is to bright.
I'm gonna go for this, The rocks and Sea Side behind St Marys Lighthouse.

This is such a difficult thing for me as I have quite a few of different subjects, so will have to choose this one for the story attached to it.
This is Wayne Hamilton & was taken in 2011 at the Southern 100. He was a young, up & coming rider, who showed great talent. I put this pic on Facebook (along with a couple of hundred others) & was spotted by a Manx artist that wanted to paint it. I sent her a copy & she showed Wayne's Father & Uncle, who made friends with me on Facebook.
I was talking to Wayne's Uncle on FB while Wayne won his 1st Manx GP, telling him how good a talent this lad was & he had a great future in front of him. 24 hours later, Wayne crashed & sadly passed away. I was asked if the family could use my photo for the cover of the Funeral book, which I took as a great Honor.
Sorry for rabbiting on, but I had to put the story over. R.I.P. Wayne, sadly missed.

One of my favourites - might change my mind but I'll go with this for now.
Oxford Street, London. Above Boots, just next door to, er, Next.

My fav so far. Slight grad filter added to the sky, other than that, straight out the camera

I'm not sure what constitutes my best picture ever, so I might change my mind before the end of the month.

That's a hard one! I have a lot of pics which are irreplaceable (which I think is the essential feature, because it truly captures a special moment in time) on top of mountains etc. Although nowhere special (a marina in Alicante), the chick's expression in this one I don't think I would ever be able to invoke again, nor make her replicate (and she's an actress)! I did some HDR stuff and colour stuff.

From back in the day.
Honda tech's pull off a last minute motor swap between races and rider Miguel DuHamel goes on to sweep all three US Superbike events that day.
Awesome effort!!!

No.77 James Ellison coming out of Club Chicane at a very wet Friday BSB practice. Despite the poor conditions they were all still giving it the beans onto the start/finish 'straight'.
The Akra pipes gave the R1 the most fantastic howl as he pinned the throttle!

Hmm, deceptively tricky topic this month. I'm gonna simplify things for myself and go with "best" as most popular on flickr and that comes in the form of this one:
Into the fire

Into The Fire (http://www.flickr.com/photos/brettnet/3822199785/) by Brettus - Brettnet.co.uk (http://www.flickr.com/people/brettnet/), on Flickr
Taken almost 4 years ago now by a friend and I heading to an abandoned WWII compound and trying various light painting tricks, this was one of the simplest but most striking. 10 second exposure of my friend Andy spinning steel wool which has been ignited with a battery, what made this one different was that the "sparks" were contained just within the mouth of the corridor with just enough flying off to keep it interesting and add movement to it.

Viney for some strange reason :0) I loved it

After much deliberation I'm gonna have to give my vote to Sir_Trev, I love shots from different angles and isolating details that I just can't pick up on it seems (I've tried to emulate them but never quite make it work)
Viney gets 2nd for a similar reason, interesting framing and I love the blue.
3rd spot goes to Keith_D as I'm very jealous of the opportunity to photograph lions and that is a perfectly timed shot.
I can see why each and every entry is a source of pride for everyone, they are all really nice shots, definitely a good topic this month!
Minimorcombe for me. I thought it was the mutt looking at a painting... Not a reflection.
Brettus. Love the fact it was planned and imagined, then the end result is so pleasing to the eye.

There were three that were so very close it was hard to choose.
And every pic this month was brilliant.
My first pick was Richie's black and white pic, but he changed it. :(
So my vote goes to 'G' !
Stunning scenery, almost surreal.
Runner up, Viney.
More than what you see, it's the way it makes you feel.
Well done effort by all.

I've seen quite a few painting with light and wire wool shots but not many that good.

I'm a sucker for birds of prey so the attitude in those eyes captured by Kenzie gets my vote. Brettus a very close second as the effect is just mesmeric.
What a great month.
I'm going to go with Viney. I really like colour in that shot, though so many of these are good this month :)

Sir Trev, I like the pattern and repetition. I would have cropped the post out though.
Brettus.
don't usually vote but that pic sparked some memory's of my trips to the foundry to pick up balusters and other cast items :-)
And The Winner of this months Comp goes to...
Brettus
Congratulaions.

Careful Richie, that post looks awfully like the first time I got a vote from you and my tiny little mind went off into overdrive as I thought I'd won :oops::oops:
But thank you everyone for the votes, it was a really strong month so well done to everyone!
