Ok so my insurance is up for renewal and Suzuki have quoted me £440ish.

Thought bugger that I'll look around and so far the only one I have found that is cheaper is MCE at £280ish.

Now I can recall various threads where MCE have been mentioned but can't for the life of me remember if it was good or bad.

So, do I save a load if dish and go with MCE or stay with my current.

Thoughts and opinion on MCE (service, claims handling, anything really) on a post card please.

I'm looking at MCE for the new bike, as they are pretty much the only people who'll insure me for less than 1k cus I don't have a garage.

Their "Helmet and leathers" cover is a joke, merely put on there so that it will show as covering helmet and leathers on the comparison sites.

AVOID! Do a quick search on here and you'll find many threads to support that advice.

I've had incredibly poor experiences on more than one occasion with MCE.
That IS personal experiences. The company they offload all their work onto (MarkerStudy) I found to be as useful as a chocolate fireguard.

Those ARE my personal experiences though. These days i stick to swinton, underwritten with Aviva. I've had no issues at all since i switched. Yes, it costs me more, but i end up with zero grief if i make a claim.

Others may report differently. Will be good to see how this goes.

Wow,

Didn't expect that so quickly!

Ok, so may not be worth the saving if they are going to be a ball ache for claims, I am a great fan of paying for convenience.

And saving may be wiped out if the H&L cover is crap sourcing an independent policy on top of separate breakdown.

I have a little while so won't make any decision just yet but think I will see if I can knock my current one down a bit. When I switch to them last year they were £900 but then matched my £400 quote from meerkat so may do the same.

Will keep this going though as a dedicated MCE gripe thread may be useful to other in future :)

i am insured with them and surprisingly i have found them rather good, i had a crash september 2012 which was completely my fault. they sorted everything and one guy from there even called me last november just to check how i was getting on and to see if my injuries were ok. but maybe im just 1 in a million who they are good to :)

Don't do it. I had nothing but trouble from them, they auto renewed even though I told them not to and there was nothing saying they would. Took months to get my money back and they were nothing but rude, there was a member on here that worked for them and I was sent snotty pm's from them accusing me of slander ect.

I have heard of details being changed so they can match a competitor's quote. It's well worth reading any cover notes VERY carefully to make sure you haven't magically gained an alarm, garage or similar.

And therefore potentially invalidating any claim, wonderful.

It must be stressed the above is hearsay, I did not have any such problems when I was with them, and they may well have cleaned up their act now.

You tried following the process on Money Saving Expert Pyro?

Got mine down to £70ish TPFT this year, 31, only three years NCB.

I have been insured with MCE. No major problems.

All of them can cause problems at times - if it's saving you enough money then do it - it's only hassle if you need to claim!

It's just tips on reducing the cost and a step-by-step guide to all the price comparison sites. If you're pushed for time, just go with confused.com and the Bike Insurer as I always seem to get my cheapest quotes from them.

I had nothing but problems with them. You confirm the details on the phone, they give a phenomenal quote (that should set the alarms bells going), the paperwork turns up and they've changed half the things you've told them, they 'forget' points, add a garage to your house, add security to your bike that you don't have, so you then have to ring them to tell them that it's obviously not an error as it's there is so much that they have changed and they try to sting you for an admin fee to change the details, argue for a while (weeks), they agree the changes you get the docs and they've changed the details, alright, but still not correct.

Nill excess on the paper work suddenly became £500 excess when I claimed, breakdown was terrible, paperwork shows as full UK and Europe, you ring them up and they say you are only covered for 10 miles from home address, what use would is 10 mile breakdown limit?? Especially when at the time this happened I worked 30 miles from home!!!

Robbing, thieving, lying, mis-selling knobtards

I'm with MCE and don't find them too bad other than they won't cover me for pillion, and didn't give me any money off for passing my IAM test.

Another one for changed details. They changed my annual mileage to 3k when it was more, took off pillion cover and insured it as datatool thing so my new insurer wanted a copy of the certificate that I didn't have. They also claimed I hadn't informed them when I'd taken the bike abroad which I did.

I realised they had removed pillion cover - not that I needed it but that wasn't the point.

I got bought a personalised plate by Mr LPH for my birthday. Took 7 weeks to get it changed during which time the bike was showing up the wrong details on the PNC and and over 6 hours 'on hold' to their phone line while the recorded message told me what an important customer I was after numerous emails. In the end I had to threaten them with the finacial ombudsmen for poor service and I told them where they could stick their £25 admin fee as I'd probably spent more than that on phone calls.

I can't say whether I've been with MCE or not before, I can't remember! however I have been and am with swinton. they are the first insurer that I have EVER renewed with, because they were just about the cheapest and it was easier to stay with them for another year, what with my medical condition I now have than it was to go through the massive faff of trying to explain my medical condition again to a new insurer. the service that they've given me has also been pretty darn good by insurance company standards too i'd say! lol

I found MCE to be fine when I got quotes and gave them my money etc... When I came to cancel my policy and get money back they were total *****s!!! After all that hassle I definitely won't be using them again!

I was with them last year and found the quote competive but never claimed so can't really recommend or warn you off them. My wife's Ped is insured with them abd again no problem but we've not claimed. When I have had to ring them up they gave been nothing but helpful etc. They never auto renewed this year and there renewal was about £150 more than I paid. Maybe with them being the main sponsors of BSB they have cleaned there act up?? Also you get lots if free cover (3 months free) leather helmet etc as separate policies.

I had major problems with them, from discovering that they had cancelled my policy despite my having paid in full up front. Customer services were very unhelpful and they claimed that they did not sell the policy I had taken out. started policy again only to have it cancelled four days later. Many mistakes or willful changes on my policy making me uninsured to ride my own bike even when the policy was not cancelled. When I complained, I was told that because I had not been caught by the Police I need not worry about it.

After weeks of serious complaints I was forced to take it to the Financial Services Ombudsman. Eventually, I got the email address of the CEO from Yorkie Chris and complained directly to the big cheese. It took three days from that point to get a full refund of all of the money I had been charged which came to well over £200 more than my policy was originally quoted. However I was once again left uninsured.

I am now insured with CIA and after three years, two accidents and a change of career I am still insured for just under £150 a year fully comprehensive. I recently phoned up about travel insurance to include cover for bike riding in foreign countries and twenty minutes after the initial quote I was called back and given another because they had found a better one for me.

I have also been insure with Swinton, who were OK but a bugger to get my no claims bonus sorted out when it came to renewal.

With MCE I have made it my duty to inform as many people as I can just how awful they are. Avoid them. [-X
