Went to petrol station on way to work this morning, filled up, went inside. Stood in queue. CRASH alarm goes off!!

Look out window. F**K!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My pride and joy is looking a little sorry for itself lying on it's side!!

Didn't know whether to scream, cry or kill everyone in the surrounding area!

Mirror smashed, as is the rear indicator, clutch lever bent, as too gear shifter. But worst of all rear plastic is mullered.

This is one S***e Friday morning.

Can't quite figure out how it fell over on the stand side! Possibly wind assisted? It had been stood for at least 5 mins before she fell over.

Gutted. :(

Bugger, there ain't many worse feelings :(

End of August, on the first day of an eight day welsh trip my explorer fell over after being parked on its centre stand for 10 hours, it was parked on firm grass next to my mates holiday bungalow, rain must've softened it and it sunk in then fell against a wall.
A 250kgs monster of a bike makes a horrible noise when it falls over.

We've all been there pal, I parked up at a scrap yard. Came out to find my bike on its side it had been parked between 2 trucks so my suspicion was someone had tried to reverse into the same spot and didn't see my bike until they knocked it over. Then feck'd off... conveniently the scrap yard did have the parts I needed to replace although it did make the trip more expensive than I first imagined.

Every bike I have owned has ended on it's side (or worse) at some point. Scheisser happens!

Still one hell of a bummer though mate.

Keep an eye out on ebay for the bits, but also check new dealer prices, panels for the SV aren't too bad.

As above, you're not the first, I thought the side-stand was down good an firmly the other day, it wasn't...

I've also parked at the head of a set of bikes at the side of a French road and put on my waterproofs. The camber on the French roads acts against the side stand as you park on the right, I lifted up my left panier to close it again. This looked exactly to the group I was with as if I had simply decided to throw my bike into a ditch. Thankfully we had a good giggle about that and I had some spare levers under the seat.

nowt worse. i had just finished polishing my last pride and joy, turned round to put stuff away and crash, bike on its side.

i now put the bike in gear roll forward till it stops then put side stand down. especially when its windy.

Mr LPH is constantly annoyed with me that I leave my bike in gear when parked, but because the GS is lowered but the stand remains the same length it means the bike always feels precarious on the side stand, especially on any sort of slope.

Messie almost had her SV roll off the stand at the 09 AR, as the was parked up in the middle of a long row of bikes if it had gone over it might have caused a domino style ripple of bikes knocked over which would have been expensive!

I gently laid my Tiger down at 0mph in front of an appreciative crowd at Rakewood Viaduct!

Jumped on, side stand up, nuts crunched by badly adjusted pants, feet up, aaaaaaaaaaaamd over it went.

No damage beyond a badly dented ego and bruised, um, gentlemens area!

Mine was knocked over 2 weeks ago. Still waiting for insurance to agree the repair bill (the guy who knocked it over kindly put his hand up to it). Even I was shocked at the bill - £3,200. But as insurance are paying I'm going for the full repair!

I remember at one of my first track days at Brands Hatch we were stood at the rear of the paddock when a copper turned up on his shiny job BMWK100 (shows how long ago it was). He parked it up just behind the control tower and started walking towards us, and in the background we watched his bike slowly start rolling forward......and then over with a loud crash. He paused mid step, and without even looking back said quite loudly "Oh bother", or words to that effect.

It happens mate, good luck getting the bits to sort it out.

Seems like a some sort of right of passage this. Either all SV owners are a bit special or this is an industry wide issue.

Worse still was the Ducati spring-loaded self retracting sidestand!

Reminds me of the twin brother (some on here have met) Put his SS900
in one of his garages when the sun started to disappear and a few months later went to get it out.

Despite being in a heated garage, out of the weather it was on its side with a £1500 insurance bill. The claim form being interesting.

That's wop crap for you, on side best place for it.

A lot of people must be a bit hard of thinking when it comes to parking bikes up. Park so gravity is helping... if you park facing downhill against a camber it's going to roll over ain't it...

If it leans half a degree then grind off part of the sidestand pivot so it gets a decent lean on.

Happened to me a few times. I now always drop the stand down whilst bike in gear1, engine cuts, then I let the bike roll either that little bit forward or back til the gear holds it, then full steering lock on and double kick the sidestand once off the bike to make sure thats all the way. Never found it on its side since (touch wood), but Im sure unlucky weather conditions might still it knock it over at some
point in the future.

If it makes you feel any better I stopped at the end of my road the other day on the Strom, Put my foot down and slipped so nearly fell off the bike one way as the bike fell the other, i hopped back across and was balanced on 1 foot trying to get the bike upright... I got it to about an inch off the floor before I had to let it go and just collapsed onto the floor.... I'd had the bike 3 days lol

The guy behind me pulled up next to me and asked if I was OK, before I'd had the chance to ask for his help standing it up he nodded at me and said "yeah you look it" and drove off.

I saw a guy drop his bike once, think it was a bandit or a hairnet or something, angrily pick it up and as he picked it up past the balance point the left handlebar grip slid off the bars and crunch down it went on the other side...

Haha shamefully Ive done similar and without a handlebar slipping off excuse to go with it. It was however my second day ever of owning a big bike.

Thanks for the kind words, yep I appreciate that i'm not the first, and I doubt it'll be the last time I do it too.
With a day or two of reflection it's a shame but it could have been worse with that M3 numpty a few weeks ago, must be Karma.
Still I'm very glad it was this way round!
New indicators arrived over the weekend, hoping the mirror turns up today, bike looks a bit wonky with only one!
All other stuff bent back nicely.
Just the large area of rash to sort out, shame I can't just rub on a little cream.
Thinking I may crack on with my plan to vinyl wrap the back of the bike matt black. Don't ask, were all a little strange after all.
Think i'll also give Lance's 1st gear idea ago, I still can't figure out how it fell over on a flat petrol station forecourt! No one to blame but me..

Dropped the SV onto the VF one morning, not best pleased. I'm tempted to put a larger "footpad" on the sidestand for a bit more stability to help. Good job i can clean one up easily, and i'm respraying the other.
