View Full Version : Bit of a restoration project.

Haven't posted on here in a longtime, but here goes...
I'm just starting on the restoration of a Honda C110, with a view to entering next years ACU National Rally on it. A C110 is a 4 stroke 50cc push rod single, mine is from 1963. Makes a rip snorting 5bhp (if I'm optimistic).
Next year is 50 years since my Dad, and five mates, entered the National Rally on a fleet of C110's. They had them on loan from Honda as a publicity stunt. They successfully completed the 600 miles in 24hrs on them, with most getting Gold Awards and the team coming second overall.
Dad is currently fighting advanced prostate cancer, so my plan is to use my entry to raise a bit of sponsorship for Prostate Cancer UK and overall awareness of the disease. I'll sell the bike at the end of it, with the money from the sale going to the charity.
It'll be a bit of a challenge to do the restoration, parts are like rocking horse ****, and the ride (540miles in 18hrs riding these days) will be rather tedious. However, it's my way of doing something to 'help' which is in keeping with Dad's interests.
I've started a blog on the project (not done one before so it may be a bit ****e!), please have a look and subscribe if interested. I'll be whoring it around next year to try to raise some sponsorship...you've been warned!

And now it moves under it's own power! Can I get it ready in time for the Spirit of the Sixties run in two weeks? It'd be a great shakedown run...

I'm not going to make the Spirit of the Sixities, I've no paperwork from the DVLA yet, but it is finished! Soon as the V5 arrives it's MOT time and I can start racking up some miles.

Cheers Stretchie! The claimed mpg is >220mpg. However, this is at something like 15mph! Cheeky *******s.
No update on the bike this week, but I've had the calculator out looking at what might be achievable on the rally.

See update on the blog: http://ridingalongwayslowly.blogspot.co.uk/2014/06/one-week-to-go.html
Thanks to those who have sponsored me already, it's not too late if you haven't done so though! See the link on the blog!

Great stuff! Looks like a struggle with the performance you have available - but you've been shown the way by your dad, so you have a good target.
Best of luck, keep us up to date with your progress.

Cheers Sid. Tomorrow is the big day. Give the blog a follow, or twitter (@duleyp) for updates on my progress. And feel free to chuck me a tenner for the trouble!

Well done on completing the Silver, a great achievement, and a lovely restoration of the bike :)
We probably didn't cross paths, but I was keeping my eyes open for you.
This was the first time I have done the rally and it was great, after 540 miles in the saddle, you really bond with the bike :)
Hoping to do it again next year :)
Congratulations. The bike looks great and that's a good shakedown if nothing else!
Have enjoyed following even if I've not been good at saying so here. Very well done!

Thanks all. It's been quite an experience!
I'll take a few weeks break and then get the bike back into top working order again before selling it.
Rigor, what route did you go on? Well done on the Gold. :thumright:

The bike has had a full service after the National Road Rally and is now for sale. Sponsorship is just over £3k so I'm hoping to break £5k in total with the money from the sale going to the total. Details on the blog...

The little Honda has sold, so the project is complete. Raised ~£6.5k!
