View Full Version : Projector HID's
stripped the headlight off the bike to inspect why one hid was not working and i have a burnt out connector... so i'm fitting the projector hid's i had lying around and never got round to as i melted the last headlight unit in the process. this time i have got the headlight apart using a heat gun and the big 3'' halo with proper UK beam pattern projector hids fit :-)
it'll take me a few days to get them all together as the hid units are a bit heavy for the bulb springs so i will have to screw the plates in. i also need to drill a hole for the other cables to exit the lens unit.

Should look cool, and less blinding :)
Have you abandoned the naked idea then?
naked still on the plans (maybe) but i thought i would play with the projectors since i have them. if i like the results i might just stay faired....
wiring harness complete, everything works as should. just need to liquid metal the unit holders into the recesses, paint the reflectors matt black, stick it all together again, and set the beam pattern then fix in place.

Be interested to see some beam shots
pics will come, i need to get a camera first... lol
i'll pop into asda 2morra and get a camera.
blackened out the reflectors as it was causing to much scattered light.

i also done the same to the side lights as i'm using LED projector ones.

just need to wait on paint drying then assemble, set beam pattern and put glass back on.
how they will look

rather cool i think. but it's not about coolness its about better light :-)

Nice! Looks mean :thumright:
Are they 35W or 50W?
could only get 35w but i got 4300k so should be nice and bright. i looked around to see if i could get 50w lamps for them but drew a blank so i don't think they make them.
bike back together and all is working like it should. will get some pics up later.
Lights off:

Looks ace :D
cheers guys. i'm hoping it gives a better beam pattern even though the last ones were good. certainly gives the bike more of a unique look.
one of the sons said i should put whiskers on the bike as the lights look like a cats. lol

BTW 4300k is perfect white light with a little amber fringing. it's loverly and i would say better than the 5000k i had.

Those high beams don't look very high?
they are actually pretty darn good TBH. i thought that when i seen the pattern but out and about tonight i tested them out and they are great. but like all HID the depth is not that good even my last 50w ones didn't throw an amazing distance, still good though.
thing i like about HID is that anything remotely reflective is lit up like a xmas tree.

Not sure I agree with that about all HID to be honest, the HID dive lights are some of the best "lightsaber" thrower lights to date.
If they don't look to throw then it's more likely the reflectors aren't really biased towards that... or that the amount of foreground light makes it look dark in the distance.
Most of that reflective effect is from scatter when you're using drop in kits! You still notice it with the projectors now you've got a decent cut-off?
yup. everything reflective still lit up like xmas tree. i'm not complaining about the throw as it's just as good if not better than incandescent, just seems a bit more washed out.

How much would you charge to do the same thing to mine? I am super impressed and really glad I have found this thread. Where did you get the UK beam pattern projectors? Are there companies that do the whole setup plug and play?
HID's were from ebay.
the man hours involved would prohibit me even contemplating doing this for others. it requires a full sub loom to be made up you then have to split the headlamp, epoxy the brackets for the projector unit into the headlamp, spray everything black, put everything back together then set beam pattern.
i think there are companies that do this but they charge a complete arm and leg for doing so.
it's fairly easy to do yourself but requires some professional crimping tools and a bit of electrical/schematic knowledge.
i took my time doing it but if your super keen then i would say it would take about 2 days start to finish.
if you want to do it yourself then i can guide you threw it.

If you would be willing to pm me links to everything I need and a simple step-by-step guide...ill buy up all that is needed and work my way through it one way or another.
I will probably attempt to also do a full photographic walkthrough for this forum so that others who want to attempt it can do so.
I have seen how much some of the companies charge. cant find any in the UK though...there is a US company that does the WHOLE kit but I worry about not having the UK beam pattern.
Any help you can provide me with would be greatly appreciated!
i'll see if i can dig around my ebay history and get you the part.
the hardest part is making the loom. the rest is just waiting for things to dry.

Did you ever get around to doing a write up for this Bibio?
I've a set of headlights sitting here, I've bugger all electrical knowledge but I'm contemplating attempting to install HIDs. A step by step, with recommendations on specific kits to purchase, would be the absolute best.
