Non starter, carbs?

Bike has been sat for months now with the occasional start. However it will not start now so I am assuming the cabs are gummed up.

Is this a hard job to tackle and what spares would I be best to order before I start?

Any links to guides. Need to buy a Haynes over the weekend

Drain them first? If it's been sat and you've got condensation in tank, it'll sink to the bottom and be pulled through first...water don't burn...

either open drains into a dry pot and look for separation, or else pop off the line at the fuel tap and do the same...whichever is easier, then start from there kiss.

If I let my SV650 sit for two weeks, the fuel in the float bowls disappears. It then takes a lot of cranking to keep the petcock open long enough to fill them.
How long did you crank it? Keep in mind that the starter motor gets very hot if you run it too long continuously.

Cranked for about 1 minute in 5 second bursts with a 3-4 second rest

Right I raised the tank for a look and on the off chance gave it a crank. Bit of a splutter then nothing so I think I may have kinked a hose going to put some fresh petrol in tomorrow and give it another go

I have a similar problem atm. Initially, I could turn tthe key and the dash lit up Holding in the clutch and pressing the starter does absolutely nothing at all. My local mechanic friend suggested that the microswitch on the clutch was duff so I ordered another from my local dealer. When I looked at the bike again today, when I turn the key, I can't hear the fuel pump and I now have a bunch of error codes on the dash. And it is still dead. Any suggestions?.

Sounds like yours is a pointy! Mine is a curvy so not fuel injected so the pimp doesn't prime. Sorry can't be much help tbh just nipping to halfords later for a Haynes to have a mooch about on my bike

Is the killswitch on? (obvious, I know). If not this, suspect battery.

No, the kill switch is off. As I said, when I turn the ignition on, I don't hear the fuel pump charging. If I try to bump start it, will the engine fire up OK?

The bike is a K3 naked.

If there's no fuel pressure to the injectors, it won't inject any fuel into the intakes. No fuel, no run.
Check fuses first, then connectors, then wire. A voltmeter on the hot wire to the connector closest to the fuel pump should be supplying 12v when the key is on.

DTC, taking off the float bowls and looking in them is step one in deciding if you need to remove and clean the carbs. Looking up in the jets you can see with the float bowls off is step two. You need a mirror and strong light to do that.
I was assuming you've already checked to see if you have sparks?

Wideguy, thanks for trying to help. My mechanic friend came round this morning to try to fix the problem. After he fitted the new clutch microswitch all is well. Why a duff microswich stopped the fuel pump from working is a mystery.

Wideguy I have checked for spark and it tried to fire on Thursday. Just need to find time to get it apart for a mosey inside
