View Full Version : What happened to your first Car & Motorbike?
My first car was a Citroen ZX Pzazz, 1.4 single point injection. Met its end with a rather spectacular crash which involved a fence.
My First motorbike was a Curvy N SV650 in Candy Blue. Met its end when it T-boned a Mini. I was travelling along a 30mph zone, solid traffic on the other side of the road. Mr Mini sped out of the junction on my right hand side and straight across my path.

Nova 1.2i! Some guy in a truck wrote it off while it was parked outside my house. Got £100 more than I paid for it from the insurance company and someone bought the wreck for £100 too. :)
Yamaha DTR 125. Sold it cheap on ebay with no MOT. Guy who bought it was a welder. Good job because most of the frame was made of rust and not connected to each other.

First bike was a CBR 125 which was p/x'd for the curvy.
First car was a Ford Fiesta 1.25 16v zetec. Met it's demise on the front end of a Peugeot 206 which pulled out from a junction without looking.

My first bike, a Peugeot Speedfight 50 was sold for very little after a year and some 8000km with me in the saddle to fund my next bike a TZR125. A few years later I did see it being ridden still but it didn't sound healthy. I do wonder if it is still going and if it is for sale...
My first car a Fiat Punto 1.1 finished its life with me a little bit shorter than when it started. I closed the M5/ M4 interchange late one November evening when I found some black ice. As I turned into the corner the front went light as started to rotate, had to put correction into it for when it regripped and when it did I had a tank slapper I couldn't control. The first brush against the wall wasn't to bad, I genuinely thought that T-Cut would fix it. The second impact did the damage to me and the car. The third strike brought the car to rest blocking lane 1.

Bought back my first big bike (the SV), it's sat neglected in the garage!

First bike was a Suzuki GP100, as that was more than 30 years ago, I can't remember what happened to it!
First car was a TR7, loved it to bits, even when I found out the bodywork was more filler than metal. Taught me so much about how cars work (or don't!) that I still have a soft spot for it. It went to the scrapyard eventually. They gave me £70 for it which I was well impressed with.
First bike: current SVS. Had it for almost 7 years now and with 42K miles on it. It is coming home tomorrow having just been written off for the second time thanks to a blind van driver in our school car park. I'll stick it back together this half term and it's good to go again :)
First car: Series 2a Landrover. Rebuilt with quite a few extras 13 years ago and still doing very well. Currently up for sale to fund the new adventure van.

Honda CG125 which my sister gave to me, once I progressed my brother had it, then my Dad. Not sure what happened to it? Being a CG its probably still going strong, although the frame will have rusted away by now.
VW Polo, which my mum gave to me, returned it after getting a mrk 2 Astra, which was replaced by my BIL's SAAB 900.
Never written a car or bike off yet (touches wood)
First car was a 1987 Nova 1.3SR. Dropped the speedo cable bolt into the gearbox which it promptly chewed up and spat through the case. Sold to it a banger racer.
My bike was a 1991 TS125R and sold it to pay for the Nova. Saw it a couple of years back but think it has been scrapped.

First car was a cortina 1600E.
As a youngster insurance was excessive at £90
First Car, a £395 '96 Corsa 1.2 with a massive dent in the side. Dad bought me a new car when I passed my test 2 months later.
First bike Yamaha Jog R which lost power as you rode it. Sold it on to someone who scrapped it I think.

yamaha sr125, put to mint condition then sold it to a guy that claimed he could ride, phoned me up a month later as some how cannibalized the gear box and tried to blame it on me.

Sounds like a snap of mine. Truck drivers half asleep trying to palm it round a corner at 30 mph while on the mobile. Glad to see they've learnt their lesson and stay off the phones these days .... ahem.

First car was/is Saxo 1.1 which has just clocked over the 100,000 mile mark and is still chugging along (touch wood!) Needs the drives shafts replacing now as they're starting to knock.
First bike was a GS 125, bought for £300 and sold for £600, quite happy about that ha!
Once it eventually got above 50mph the speedo went mental and indicated between 85 & 100mph! I looked like an orangutan on a mini bike when riding though.
I had a 1.6 Escort Ghia that used to be the family car and had over 100k on the clock. Got a nice Christmas present when I got home from uni, my dad had scrapped it for me as I couldn't afford to renew the insurance or run it.
First bike was an MBK (Yamaha apparently) MachG scooter which I sold to my brother after a year. I think he sold it on to a mate who wrecked it but I was paying more attention to my Escort by then.

First car that was effectively mine was my mum's Volvo 480. It met it demise when it needed about £1000 worth of repairs to pass its MOT (suspension mounts were rotting, the electrics had gone before I started driving it and head gasket was about to go) and it was worth about £300. Driving it from the garage to the scrap yard I blew out the cooling system doing a burnout on the Thursley road. This meant that I had to do the last two miles to the scrapyard on a potholed dirt track at 40+ to stop it overheating. That was fun. I knocked the exhaust off and put a stick through something vaguely important in the engine bay.
First car which I bought and owned was a MK3 Golf GL TDI, with oval aftermarket alloys that resonated at 74-78 mph, the electric windows didn't work so you had to go past the toll booth on the Severn crossing and open the door to stick the money in. And I put a couple of dents in it when the door looks stopped working and I had to climb in through the sunroof. The only thing to did to it was replace the drivers side door lock in three years and a few oil changes. bought for 850, sold for 950. Was well happy.
First bike is (hopefully) sat out the front of work. see my avatar. Just has three times as many miles on it as when I bought it.

Motorbike catastrophes to many to mention as a 15-17 year old but the most spectacular was going flying after hitting a ford[burn/stream] at 60+mph
First car 1947 Rover 14,I went over a hump back bridge at 70mph[down hill] and the chassis snapped in half. Back to the scrap yard and got something else to "Salvage"
Yes I was a nutter as a kid
Current project 1989 [24year old] Yamaha 400 FZR
First moped was a TSX50, sold it to some girl to use as a farm bike, only lost £100 on it.
First proper bike was my SV, sold it to a guy on here for £50 less than I paid for it, suppose after 2 years it's about time he found out! He proceeded to do all kinds of weird things to it like paint it white :p
First car was a Peugeot 206 1.0 XL had it for less than a year and sold it to a friend of a friend who kept it for a good few years.
Touch wood I have never scrapped or written off a car and technically not written off a bike (only because I crashed the Fireblade on track lol)
Chinese 'dirt pro' 125 that cost me £200. Lasted 3 months until I was kicking down gears approaching a roundabout and the whole cushdrive/sprocket sheared from the hub and my chain wrapped around the mess locking the wheel.
Didn't come off, but I did have to push it home with a locked wheel.
Sold it to a mate for spares, then 5 years later last year the dvla sent me a letter saying it was still in my name and fined me 40 quid for leaving it unlicensed.

My first motorcycle was bought by an old fella who wanted a pretty bike for bumbling around on. It was a Honda Rebel cruiser. He took it in a van up North, and I made 100 quid on it.
My first big bike(yellow SV) is in the man shed, I've had it since 2004. Its had a lot of work done on it, and is in far better condition than it was bought in. It was also in an edition of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics earlier this year. Unfortunately it doesn't make much of an appearance on the road, as I get on far better with the Raptor.
My first car was a 2.5l V6 Freelander. Even when it broke it refused to die, it had bits missing, lights flashing, the tyres were worth more than the car and eventually it went to the Great Landrover Man in the sky for parts. We laugh now, but the Top Gear boys would be proud of it. It just refused to give up ever(and cost a lot of money to keep it going at that)!
I just sold my first bike a couple of weeks ago to a mate of mine.
My first car ended up getting scrapped. JEC 161X mk1 Polo! Remember it well....

My first car was a 1976 Vauxhall Cavalier which was orangey yellow which I bought in 1988 and at 12 years old it had less than 20,000 miles on the clock and looked like this.
http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6200/6058817411_70356be002_n.jpg
It got written off when an estate agent chatting on his mobile while re-tuning his radio slammed into my stationary vehicle. I suffered back and chest injuries - no headrests and airbags in those days - and the car ended its life banger racing.
First bike was a Honda 125 that appeared in the garage one day when I was about 19. When I asked what it was doing there my boyfriend said his friend Hugh wanted to buy a guitar from him but had no cash so they'd done a swap. The boyfriend had no interest in bikes so I learned to ride it. Hugh went on to buy a Ducati, the boyfriend went on to own a 1967 Mustang Fastback and trained as a pilot. I bought a Vespa as my second bike!

First bike was a rd50 in white. Great little bike then did a deal for an ap50 which was brilliant.
First car was a Capri 2.0l gl. Great car had it a couple of years and sold it for 100 quid. Not bad as it had done about 150'000 miles.

My first car was a Ford Anglia with the back cut out when I was about 7. My first legal road car was a 1969 HB Viva. It met its demise on christmas day 1979 when a cattle truck couldn't stop on a single track road and we had a bit of a knock. What actually killed it was the police car called for by the driver of the cattle truck. He knew the road was blocked on a blind bend by vehicles caught out by the ice. Yes he came round the bend. saw my car, braked and smacked it up the rear end squashing it under the cattle truck.
First bike was a James 150 cadet when I was about 14, but my first legal bike was a D14 bantam which I sold to buy a C15.

First bike - Honda H100SII at 17. Passed my test on it and traded it in to get my first Suzuki (GSX250EZ).
First car - Citroen Visa at 24. 652 rip snorting cc's of air cooled boxer twin rubber band. Kept it for two years and traded it in for a Ford Escort 1.8 16v (a VAST improvement).
Did not crash or damage either of them and sold them in pretty much the same condition as I bought them. Just as you would expect of someone who was on their way to becoming an accountant...
gilera runner 180 - stolen and dumped by the canal. I rode it home without keys and spent 30mins trying to work out how to stop the thing by riding round in circles at midnight. It went to a salvage company.
Fiat uno, had filler and rust and cried a bit of oil. Was a great car in some respects and ended up Wales. Sadly I believe it is no longer with us :(

first car was a 1984 Nissan cherry (2 years older than me), 1.3 GS (the 'GS' bit apparently made it 'racy' and the insurance sky high (£1600 & then £1800 when I passed my test n had no one "responsible" with me any more all TPF&T), even though it only had 4 forward gears!). I was only 17 though and being the first of my friends to get on the road etc was great! not the coolest car by any stretch, but it did do a job despite there not even being a tape player or even FM radio, but above all else it was free! :) (it was my granddad's and he stopped driving and gave it to me). it survived a right off scare after some little scrot rot managed to hit the rear windscreen with a stone (which shattered it!), as a new rear windscreen would've had to come specially from japan and cost £1800!! luckily managed to pick up another in a scrapyard for about £40 with about £20 fitting charge. it ended it's life at the scrap yard where I got about £100 for it.
first bike was and still is my current bike, the sv, still going very strong 5 years after purchase, now with about 60k or so on the clock. have had a track only fireblade in the meantime, but since a trackday crash (and a lack of time and ability to transport it) have sold it to a fellow organ, who has brought it back to life very well too.
First road bike was my Honda NS125R, sold to my sister's workmate who had it for a few weeks before introducing it to the back end of a Volvo. A hilarious role reversal from the norm, I thought.
The car was a matt black £400 Nova SR1.3 total rustbucket. Sold to a guy who I vaguely knew. He threw in a Cavalier SRi lump and used that for a while. I found out years later it now lies buried in a field at his house, having succumbed to it's own rust.

First bike, Honda C50. Great fun when you're 17.... That was 19 years ago though...Sold it for what i paid for it (£15) when the tax and MOT ran out.
First car (that was actually mine) Ford Granada Scorpio. Engine died 6 months later, so i scrapped it.

First bike was a 1985 Honda CG125 Brazil, was out wobling around on my 17th birthday in 1989. Survived getting thrown down the rode when a slow moving truck changed lanes as I was overtaking, my younger brother later passed his test with it too. Sold it to a friend of my Dad's in '96 who also had vintage/classic bikes for his son to learn on, he still has it and rides it himself now and again, looking a bit faded now but still going strong.
First car was a 1977 Mini 850 in Antique Gold (vomit green), that I drove for 2 years then passed to my brother (again!), we both managed not to crash it but the rust bug caught up with it in the end, a local guy that had a garage that specialised in Mini's grudgingly offered us £20 for it scrap to go with all the others he had for parts at the back. I levered the bonnet badge off before taking it down to leave there, it's in a box with a load of other bits in the loft.

first bike was a 99 curvy in blue, rebuilt many time after crashes (paid for itself 5 times over) swaped for a car (blame the wife) to a stranger, mate rolled up to my door on it 8 months later, he then proceeded to run it without oil, im sure you realise the end result
ive never owned my own car strangely, as many current and ex mob lads will understand i was a part owner of many, TO THE BLOCK BUS LADS WERE ON THE PI55 TONIGHT LOL
first bike was a yamaha CW50 (B-Wiz) the 50CC engine met it's demise after a gudgeon pin surclip fell off... still have the piston. after fitting a 70cc engine kit, i sold it onwards. hopefully it's still going.
First proper bike, Yamaha RD125 in yellow. bought it, then took it apart for main bearing repairs, eventually sold for about what i paid for it.
First big bike was a Suzuki GS500 it went to the bike hospital after a stupid van driver pulled out on me at a roundabout but after its repairs it was fine. I eventaully sold it for £500 to a guy who lived close to where i do now, hopefully it's still going.
First car was a Fiat punto 1.2, I broke the speed limiter comming down the M5 round birmingham so it was able to do 100mph plus instead of the limited 96mph, took it from Cardiff to Southampton in 2 hours (journey that should be 3-4hours). unfortunately the finance company decided that they would refuse to speak to me after only 1 missed payment and repossessed the car. Last I saw it some kid bought it and the engine sounded nearly dead.

First bike was a Honda MBX125fe which I sold for next to nothing as I'd already got a cb1-400 to replace it. No idea what happened to it afterwards but it's not been taxed since 2000 which is when I sold it
First car was a 1982 fiesta 1.1L. I blew the big ends after just 6 months and sold it to an old bloke who had a fiesta which was rotten but had a good engine which was the opposite of mine. It was last taxed in 2004 so probably scrapped now
First bike was a 50cc Honda Vision. Several half-arsed attempts at "tuning" by mates that knew far less than they thought resulted in an extra 5mph and 50dB. Took corners at lean angles only a 16 year old would attempt, trying to grind the foot plate. Eventually managed to do that one day, in front of a large audience, and crashed in fairly spectacular fashion. Scoot was OK and was traded in against a Yam RD125LC when I was 17. I stuck that through a hedge within 5 hours of owning it.
First car was a 1978 Mini Clubman 1098cc. Owned it for 2 years and covered 62000 miles with the accelerator pushed to the floor. Went through LOTS of tyres but, despite the abuse, it was ultra reliable. The only things I had to replace were the fuel pump and the engine. :D
Got rear ended by an HGV which left it a foot shorter than it should have been. Bought for £600 and sold it to a lad I knew for £150. He fixed it up, painted it green and it lasted another 3 years before being killed off.

1984 Capri 2.0S in metallic Jewel Green (only year they did it). First year for the 5 speed gearbox. Spent loads, took £450 when sold it and was around local until a few years ago. Never had an accident in it whilst in the car but got hit several times in the car park and by a milk float reversing down the road in the dark looking for an address. Those damn metal bumpers were a pain to get fixed
SV650 K3 - sold to an Org'er to complete in mini-twins. Only time I saw it again was when he dropped it at Lyddon.
