For anyone that doesn't know, it is a very lightweight and very cool camping chair: http://www.helinox.eu/chair-one

I'm sort of considering buying one (£72! :smt104) but some things are worth paying for, wondered if we had any owners on here that could give me an idea of if it is worthwhile etc.

thanks :)

No arms and more importantly, no beer holder! If you genuinely intend to carry it on your back then I'd sit on something else I'm already carrying like a sit-mat or roll-mat or towel. If I'm taking the car I'd take something more substantial. However for just having a cool bit of kit to pose with it looks fab.

I use a cheepie 3 legged fold up stool when I travel semi-light and the full comfy chair with arms, beer holders etc when in the car.

Me too, something that small would come in dead handy for sitting outside concerts waiting to get in, as I want to get to the front of stage if poss, so I get there early.

I've used cheapo folding seats, which I've put in the bin before going in

I'm too old to be standing for hours on end, or sitting on concrete

This would pack up small enough to go back in my rucksack

I've just bought a high gear Arizona chair for this weekends camping trip, I got it because of its construction compared to the normal style of chairs, it's also one of the smallest pack size in length, which is what I wanted as it can sit across my pillion seat/panniers while travelling.

The abr forum has a big thread going about the helinox chairs, I personally don't like them, the assembly every time looks annoying and they are quite low, when you're over six feet tall with dodgy knees, I can see that giving me some pain getting out from such a low position.

I have a Helinox, luckily Blacks had a 15% discount offer on so it cost me "just" £65.

I was camping with a couple of mates in May this year when we met someone with one and we were all impressed. One mate bought one and was very happy with it so I took the plunge also. I like to keep everything inside the hard luggage without strapping stuff across the seat, but that's just me.

It's very well made, it looks like it ought to just collapse but unless you jumped on it from a height it'll be fine. All the reviews and youtube stuff I found on it was 100% positive.

In use it's comfy, ventilated mesh is nice in hot weather, just drape something over it to stop draughts in cooler evenings. I thought the feet would sink into soft ground and was prepared to make some bigger diameter feet, but so far it hasn't been an issue, they must have done some R&D!

Conclusion - high price, excellent quality, comfy, convenient, packs small (fits easily inside my hard luggage), lives up to reputation. If you need/want the small packed size and can afford it, go for it, you won't be disappointed. If you don't need the small pack, there are much cheaper solutions.

Half the price of a trackday for a camping chair? No I haven't got one actually.

Possibly THE most helpful bump ever. Sadly I've come to my senses and can't spend that much on a chair just now (well OK maybe I didn't come to my senses, in actual fact I've just found MORE stuff I want (most of it more expensive :S))
