Anyone worried about this? I keep my bikes outside so I'm kind of worried I'll need some replacement parts after tonight...

Purportedly worst storm since '87.
A yellow alert warning of heavy rain that could lead to surface water .
.flooding and disruption is in place for all areas, apart from London and the South East and eastern England.
So as Im Essex we look to b ok :)

It's just going to be breezy and a bit moist. Going to make the morning commute a bit more interesting on the bike.

I'm expecting and preparing for a storm equal to or greater than '87. In the hopes that it won't even come close.

Ask Micheal Fish
Everything loose in the garden is now inside, stakes and ropes or props against the fence posts, fingers crossed. We're in the bottom of a small valley which runs SW-NE, so sou'westerlies get funnelled along it, plenty of fence posts and ridge tiles have been lost from neighbours over the years I've been here. My 250 got blown over in the '87 storm. Was in Brighton at uni at the time - very surreal experience looking over the valley at what used to be a wood the following morning...

Well to say the wind today has gone all but unmentioned yet IMO its been "bloody windy" I do wonder what tomorrow will be like if they're right about how bad its gonna get.
Still plan to ride to work (i have no other reasonable choice) but my predication is it'll be "interesting" at least.
With any luck it'll be like a snow day and keep all the incapable drivers off the roads... yeah right.

Same here, I'm more worried about riding to work than what happens during the night. Although I think I might move the bike into the alleyway to be on the safe side. I wouldn't be surprise if it isn't that bad and it's been hyped up quite a lot!

Got to work from home as they have cancelled all trains until 9.00am at least. Then it'll be mayhem. Far easier to start work at 8am, work through lunch and finish at 4pm.
Gonna shoot up from MK to Nottingham by car on the M1 in a few hours time. Should be a blast.
Hmmm, could be the calm before the storm, but it's dead still here right now. Feels eerie.
In Kent its raining quite hard, the wind is gusting already.

Well, ****'s getting pretty real over here.
Bit windy here but then I'm on top of a hill so it normally is. Nothing to write home about.
Left MK at 4am. There was some serious surface water (mostly on the fast lane) and strong gusts particularly when passing lorries. Couple of scary moments. Still made good time though:cool:.

Gusty winds here, one fence panel blown in, but its one that blew in last year.
The wheelie bin has blown over, but nothing unusual, we've got a couple more hours before the worst of its meant to blow through
The rain was so bad in Essex this morning at one point I had to switch my wipers from intermittent to low, fortunately a couple of miles on we were back to intermittent again. Also there was a toppled shrub that was blocking the whole of the pavement, be careful out there chaps....it's nasty. :p

Came by tube (because trains didn't work) because was raining and very windy at home. Sitting in the office, half of it empty, sky clear and sun shinning.
I should have came with the bike :(

My sister's advice was to keep my cats in overnight. When I said that they aren't scared of storms her reply was 'No but they are huge (each weighing 7kg), if they got caught in the wind and hit the side of a house or a car think of the damage they could do!'
No trains until at least noon so I'm working from home. Sunny here in Essex now though.
Pleasant ride in on the bike. Office is rather quiet.

Agreed
No worse than any other storm at this time of year, 2 fence panels blown in, but that's usual.
Nothing like the apocalyptic event that was predicited

Last nights weather should have been forecast by Michael Fish. Then he'd get some redemption.
Was a tad scary riding from Luton to London this morning at 6am. Got hit by a few nasty gusts of wind and went from one side of the motorway to the other, only to get caught by another and sent back the other way, **** was like a rabbits nose.

I'm not complaining - better to be prepared and be underwhelmed than the opposite. Plus there's no shortage of places that have been affected.

Ride in was really quiet, but still slow, as all the little twigs and leaves that had been blown off the trees were in the hash-markings (or whatever they are called) almost all my usual filter opportunities were scuppered by this.
Its madness I tell you.

storm? what storm!
October's a bit too early for Scots to be getting smug about the weather. ;)

The park near me looks a mess too, hundreds of trees damaged or uprooted.
