If it's blown glass, it's an accident waiting to happen.
If it's acrylic rated to hold fuel, that's actually a pretty good idea. No rust, can see the level at all times, and you can see if there's any crap in your fuel.

Weirdly, I was thinking about this the other day; Bike with a sexy frame and air cooled engine (no idea what) clear panels and tank, tastefully lit with LED's to highlight polished faces on engine fins.
If only I had the skill.
fwiw, that looks like glass to me.
