So my laptop is doing my head in as it keeps dying.
It is about 5 years old now so time for an upgrade.
I think I just want a tablet as I only use the laptop for general web browsing i.e. facebook, piniterest, ebay, hotdeals.
I would also like to use it to watch films and read books.
I haven't a clue about tablets so I need some help.
I don't really want to spend over £150.

Under £150 rules out Apple.
For film watching, I wouldn't go for a screen much less than 10" & go for one with a decent screen resolution too.
Looking at either Android OS or Windows 8. What phone do you have? Maybe good to get something you are already familiar with in terms of manufacturer and operating system.

I wouldn't want an ipad I don't think.
I have a Samsung S3 at the moment.
A good idea this time of year is going to Carphone Warehouse, Pc World, Argos and the alike to see what deals they have on. Most online seem to be the £200 mark on something I would go for (Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8" & this http://www.saveonlaptops.co.uk/ASUS-ME102-ME102A-1A034A_1481081.html)
Processor wise you want a Dual core, ideally no less than 1.5GHz speed. Storage isn't too much of an issue as you can upgrade it with the MicroSD card. I'd steer away from manufacturers you haven't heard of too, in case of trouble with warranties and what not.
In fact, I just came across this:

I can probably stretch to £200.
Hopefully there will be some on sales after Christmas
If you can, then I would look at Samsung. It is something you know, a brand name & generally one of the better tablets out there. The tab 3 has only been released recently, so hopefully there are some deals on the Tab 2 :)

Got the stepdaughter a Telefunken 10.1" tablet for christmas.
Dual core A9 1.6Ghz, 1Gb ram, 16Gb storage, 1280x800 res
aluminium case, HDMI PLUS 3g if you throw a sim in it.
£100 delivered off ebay.
I went telefunken because in the 70s we had a TV made by them, and it was bulletproof.
Might not mean anything these days though, but worth a look.

I will probably look at a Samsung S3 Tablet.
I don't think I would want a tablet with a brand that I do not know.
I love my S3 so it seems the right direction to go in

Got my wife a Samsung Galaxy tab last year, 7in screen plenty good enough for general film watching & BBc I player catch up, plus web browsing etc. I think I paid £130
Amazon had it for £99 quid, so pay a bit more for the 10inch model, but its heavier to hold.
I've got a 7in sumvision tab for £49, bit slow browsing the web, but for £49 its pretty good at everything else. Screen is HD
Bought the youngest a 7in ASUS tab for her birthday, £59 on Tesco direct, normal price £79, it'll be fine.
Just don't expect the performance of an Apple or Nexus for under £100, but the Samsung is pretty good
The new nexus 10 will soon be release. So sit tight and get the old one at a discounted price

The Hudl came out as a Which best buy at £119 and I've just bought one as a present for my nephew. Only 7 inch but good screen and Android. I've still got the report downstairs so I'll post up their best buys for you later.

I recently bought myself the Acer iconia a1 after my cheap Chinese thing died.
£150 and after using it my girlfriend and best friend went out and got one as they were so impressed.
7.9" screen, only a tad bigger than the I pad mini and the battery is good for 2\3 days.
It also had micro SD port so I've got a 32gb card in there crammed with films.
The screen look very good and when held side by side with the iPad mini is only slightly less sharp. But you'll struggle to notice it.
A lot of reviews slate the screen but I now know 2 other people who love theirs and haven't had a single problem.
Being Acer I don't think you can go wrong, solid build and you know it will last.
I mean my laptop is 5years old and still going strong even the battery on that thing lasts 7 hours at a push.
Worth a look

One word of warning. If you want to watch lovefilm, I am afraid you cannot do it on Android as Amazon will only permit the kindle fire. A cynical marketing ploy to force people to buy their brand of tablet.

Thats why i cancelled my lovefilm account and only use netflix.
If your buying kindle. There's no. Android market (play store), Plus your need to pay extra for no ads.
Blink box works fine on android.

Go Android, I've got a Windows tab, and it's great if you want it as a portable work tool using Office Word and Excel, but not as good as an Android if you want to browse the web or download any apps, plus they're dearer than their Android equivalents.

I know it's a bit more than you want to spend but this (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SAMSUNG-GALAXY-NOTE-10-1-INCH-16-GB-TABLET-WHITE-/350962039630?pt=UK_iPad_Tablets_eReaders&hash=item51b6f7bb4e)is a bargain - and with a 12 month Argos warranty.
I bought a Galaxy Note 10.1 from Tesco Outlet on eBay earlier in the year and it's simply fantastic - much better than my previous tablet (a Sumvision).
Although sold as refurbished, mine obviously had never been out of the box.
For watching videos & reading magazines the extra inches make all the difference!
Runs Sky Go and Netflix brilliantly & the battery lasts ages.
Whatever you go for, don't go for anything less than a 16gb tablet though, as you won't be able to fit many games / apps on an 8gb device.
