Hi all... I recently aquired a damaged hugger from a member on here, ive repaired the damage with some new fibreglass and filler.
My plan is to vinyl Wrap it rather than try and match the paint.

Do i need to paint it, or can i simply wrap over the filler? (im not too bothered about removing it in the future)

As long as it's smooth just wrap over it. I've wrapped plastic, metal and over filler as you can make speed humps on cars with filler and wrap to make them look like they belong on the car etc.

Excellent.... exactly what i wanted to hear!! I suppose if anything does go wrong with it then i can simply remove it, paint it and re-wrap it

Yeah of it doesn't stick for done unknown reason you could re wrap after paint. Or to give u piece if mind quickly spray it before wrapping

Just wrap it mate providing you use a decent vinyl it will be fine. I'm going to wrap my seat cowl when I can be bothered.

Looks like you've done a cracking job on the tail section and side panels. Where did you get the carbon look vinyl?

I've looked at carbon fibre-look vinyl on ebay and was wondering if there is much variance in the quality, look and feel. Did you select the vinyl with a degree of care or are they all roughly the same?

I used this one, and it arrived next day over Christmas which was very good

But any 4D vinyl will give you the same affect, its just down to how confident you are at applying it!! ;) I'm doing my front Hugger later

How did you get it round the curves with no creasing at all? Hair dryer and stretching?

Yes very light heating with a heat gun or hair dryer, but make sure you don't burn it, I've been window tinting for a few years so vinyl wrapping is a very similar process if not easier. ;)

Could you elaborate on your technique for getting it so smooth? For example, on the side panels you have managed to cover the countersunk bolt holes and it looks totally perfect with no creases. Do you start in a corner and work away from the corner or in the middle and work towards the sides? Did you cut out for the bolt holes first?

I would like to have a go at doing this but I think I f**k it up the first few times if I didn't have some instruction.

Time and a lot of patience, start with the flat surface first then work you way in to the corners, vinyl in very stretchy so don't be too worried about pulling it in to the corners, but don't over heat it, it will burn very easy, once you have it on then worry about the recessed bits by slowly heating it and working it down with your finger, then cut the holes once applied

if at any point you need to pull it back off that's fine, and if you do get any small crease just heat it back up and pull it out.

hope that helps you out a bit :D

Hey Dalerst, many thanks for the tips and hints. I might try this very soon, had a second look at ebay and found that the vinyl is inexpensive so thought I might have a play with it. If (when) botched it is it easy to remove, clean any residual adhesive off the part and start again with a new piece of vinyl?

Good man, if you do need to take it back off just reheat it and it should come off with all the adhesive.

Ok so wrapping a hugger is a tad more difficult than wrapping side panels or anything else I have ever done! God damned complex curves!

If you do get any residual adhesive the best thing to remove it is WD-40!!
