Hi All,
Just wondering if anyone if thinking of heading north for AR2014 (http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=206460)?
This year will see it being based from Bellingham, west of Newcastle and just south of the Scottish border...it's a long old trip to get there at about 300 miles from Norwich but should be do-able in 2 halves in a single day (maybe stop in Grimsby for fish and chips en-route?).
I think the ride out and general scenery will be well worth the effort, the campsite with £8 per person per bike camping looks good
So who's up for it? I've been given the thumbs up from the mrs...

So is this both of you going?
If more other half's go I might be able to twist Sarahs arm. Especially if accommodation other than a tent is available

Yes, but all dependent on dates & other commitments

It might happen if I can find someone we can trust to look after the kids for the whole weekend, one of them is only 2yrs though....
I do plan on getting the mrs on the back this year, that's part of the reason of the rocket, but it might just have to be days out rather than a longer trips like this one this year...she didn't like going on the back of the SM-T very much :(
I'm thinking of a devious plan to use the car and bike :)
But like you there's other pressures to get dependance looked after (parents),.
I know I'm not from the area but would maybe convoy up! I'm considering the AR this year, just depends on the date of it as I already have a few trips planned for this year.

Took the words right out of my mouth, I'm exactly the same as this

An A1/M1 convey? We just put a first stops on route and people join as we go?
From Norwich we're talking 3 hours to Grimsby (or maybe less for somewhere else), that's the AM....then 3hrs from there to Bellingham...
Is anyone coming from Norfolk/Suffolk up for making Grimsby the first pit stop for fish and chips or would you sooner save a half hour and keep it inland with motorway services?
Via Grimsby (6 hrs): http://goo.gl/maps/J9CeV
Services off the M1 near Bawtry (5.5 hrs): http://goo.gl/maps/3qSTu
...no point trying to do it all on B roads right, too long haul for that, just stick to the main roads and keep the average up right? We can worry about pit stops later for fuel / taking a **** etc as I would imagine my tank ranges are on the long end anyway :)
Well a loose convoy with rendezvous points might be Ok.
I've done home to Mary Port in a day. But the next day was a bit foobard.
Ok the 675 is easier to use than the RSV.

Mmmm, Mary Point aint too different distance wise to what we might be attempting...
We need to know the weekend's organisation don't we! If we are heading up on a Friday and then next days riding starts early it may be better having a nice ride up in 2 parts and stopping somewhere on the way...like Grimsby maybe lol....(I don't know what this recent obsession with Grimsby is btw)...or we just set off early hours so we get there earlyish and can rest well (and drink) before the next day
I am also toying with the idea of heading into Scotland after the weekend and making it a longer holiday to get more good roads in...it would likely be a Rocket 3 affair if I do (may do North Devon in May too with other Rocketeers)

I'll pop up a google map for a scenic route from Darlington, Wetherby or wherever from the A1 if you wish. Just let me know how long you will have.
From hear it's not quite as far as Mary Port. But the next day remember your embarking on a road trip with a group of unfamiliar riders.
And as you well know your need a good night's rest to be on your toes

Yeah, you're right....might be pushing it just a little....I've done 2 x 3 hr jaunts in one day before, either side of meetings in Birmingham, it was an exhausting and long day....
Let's see what others have to say on it...it may well be better finding somewhere to stop off before entering the north east, so heading up to Bellingham on day 2 could also include so nice scenic stuff too without being a hard slog....
Maybe we can pursuade some northern orgers to put some of us EAR members up the night before we head out to AR2014 the day before the main ride out? Beer would be the payment and sleeping bags on the floor would be the sleeping arrangements :)
I'd hack up there on the motorway and get it out the way with. Not as fun, but quicker and less tiring!

Would love to come, and camp! Especially due to having to miss last year very short notice with work commitments. But really need to know dates ASAP as the RAF like to ruin my summers well in advance :)

There are quite a few now that obviously need to know dates, I have already said I have no preference of dates right now on the main AR2104 thread and I hope the guys will come up with some soon (I think they're waiting on a response from the camp site to know what will work with then first)...shouldn't be too far off...the sooner we get a date to work with the sooner we can get some dates earmarked and cleared with bosses

It would make for a much simpler trip for sure, setting off early enough would give some good R&R time at the other end...I just haven't had any long days on the Rocket as yet so I am a littler cautious...maybe I am just over thinking it lol, as per usual :)

You're right. We are trying to confirm with the campsite, but think that they may be having a few days off. As soon as we know with complete certainty we will publish the dates.

The A1 / A69 route is not always the easiest or quickest due to peak time congestion in which case this route may be better, your choice. http://goo.gl/maps/aL8ho
It's going to be 5 hours jog. So the easer the route the better but if you set of at 10 am your be infront of the rush hour.

just stick a good lunch break in the middle (will need fuel too anyway) and all will be well no doubt....
I've already got the route sorted....they'll be a stop (point B) for lunch and fuel at 130 miles from Norwich and a slight detour (adds 8 minutes) towards the end just after Darlington so instead of going A1(M) all the way we cut across the A68 at the later part, also I am assuming we can get fuel along the A68 somewhere for the final bit: http://goo.gl/maps/elE8j
We can worry about meeting point for all jumping aboard the EAR express later :)

Yes but your best to plan a detour into Darlington and Corbridge (cheaper and guaranteed to be open). We will be posting info on fuel etc... Closer to the time

Anyone gonna stay through until Monday AM? Might be nice to get a ride in on the Sunday afternoon too once the booze has worn off!
If so I'll stay Friday, Saturday and Sunday night...
Booked Fri through to Monday

Booked the same dates too, the first for the bunkhouse....
Hopefully there will be a fair few up for more riding on Sunday!

I'm more than happy to share a few of my favourite routes as google maps or garmin files if you let me know how far you would like to go. On the Sunday I'm also up for a ride out.

Nice one guys, please share any good routes with google maps and I can then convert for tomtom, garmin etc as necessary, makes them easy to share, play about with on the forum etc etc :)
Just had a little wander on street view around the other side of the border from the campsite, those roads and the scenery is gorgeous! Any routes through the hills or to the west coast etc would be great...in fact it seems such a shame if I've put a whole day in to get up that way not to do a couple more again whilst there....we shall see......

Over the next couple of days I'll start a thread for a Sunday ride out and a thread of other things to see and do in Northumberland for those taking the opportunity to stay a little longer.
Edit the planned Saturday ride out takes in some of the best of the Borders roads and scenery, you'l love it.

Well guys, here's a revised route from Norwich up to the campsite (https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=norwich&daddr=Unknown+road+to:Unknown+road+to:54.6064967,-1.6794324+to:54.7486863,-2.0101728+to:54.8964334,-2.2599339+to:B6305+to:Bellingham,+UK&hl=en&ll=53.888154,-0.483398&spn=2.988366,7.13562&sll=53.946388,-0.966797&sspn=2.984203,7.13562&geocode=FWYVIwMdy8sTACkT9TNR1arQRzEvRRIO4KVMaA%3BF d-cLAMd_PHx_w%3BFRPAPgMdw5Dm_w%3BFc8mQQMdiXjm_ykNf1B zzIJ-SDEJEi51gl33lw%3BFZFlQwMdVFXh_ykz1xNwPjN8SDFtzdpEW W56rg%3BFTGnRQMdrYXd_ykJeUGLJ7d9SDGENiKNBkhvzg%3BF XxtRgMd5wDe_ynFZf2b07l9SDH76FVIZETpDw%3BFTR1SQMdtJ rd_ymhWdrCvJV9SDHArbQLCSQDPQ&t=h&mra=ls&z=8) (thanks Andrew for the heads up on the better roads)
Assuming we get moving around 9am to miss most of the peak traffic once propertly enroute, point B is the first stop for Lunch (McD's at around Midday), point C is a second stop (at around 2pm) before the nice roads start, and the rest should mean we get to the campsite somewhere around 4:30ish :) ....Coming off the A1(M) after Darlington adds about 45 mins to the journey time but gets us into some nice territory for a while.
I'll leave it at that for a while, no more tinkering...
If anyone wants to try and figure where they can join the convey fire away, we can try and estimate times and maybe arrange for a couple of meeting points assuming all concerned will be at them well ahead of the agreed times so we can not waste too much time.
We'll start a new thread later in the year once things have firmed up a bit to talk about who's heading up in the convey and from where, and what extra activities other than the Saturday ride out we might want to get into too when up there :)
I am toying with the idea of heading on from there on the Monday for a couple more days, going across to the west coast and up or down from there...not sure yet. B&Bs all the way though, no tents for me if I can help it!
Cheers...it's gonna be a cracker
I have a week booked at the TT this year - which is using all my brownie points for this kind of trip...
Have a good one all though if you do go - meant to be some great roads up there :)
