View Full Version : Why are other forums not as good as this one?

Just acquired a Honda Civic with crap wheels. Registered with a Civic forum to ask about compatible wheels and after 30 minutes, still no response. By now had I posted that on here I'd have had :-

- "Use the search facility you lazy sod"
- here are 15 different wheels that would work plus part numbers plus cheapest dealer
- links to a dozen ebay auctions offering the right wheels
- someone would have said they have 4 sets in their garage if I want them for free
- someone would have suggested I change re reg/rec
- someone else would have suggested I keep them as changing them will cause the world to end
- several people will have reposted largely irrelevant content from a google search in an attempt to come across as useful

I feel at times we take for granted just how good and useful this forum is.

Oh and does anyone know if alloys from a 2005 Accord will fit a 2008 Civic with 205x55x16 tyres? Stud pattern, off-set and tyre size look similar but not sure if the feng shui is compatible.

if you want a laugh take a peek at the TT forum every now and then, I'm not a memeber but i look in every now and then when im bored and there's some epic bitch fights on there. McPint and Hutchy occasionally log on to tell people to shut the **** up.

Can't help with your actual query but I'm constantly amazed by the breadth of knowledge and experience contained within our midst. I ask the most random things and without fail I've had really good answers!

I think the accord wheels will fit, I doubt they would re engineer new stud patterns or off sets on cars that close together in years, of course I could be talking absolute crap but at least I've responded.

In fairness to other forums, you get more help when there are more members, some forums only have a few active members, we're 'blessed' with lots of active members on here and Wideboy.

It is rare to find such intelligence and dashing good looks in one person. We are indeed very fortunate to be able to have Wideboy as our very special member.

I'm not sure but it seems to have the perfect mix of enthusiasts, geeks, commuters, weekend warriors, police & ex-police and even the occasional normal person. It also seems to hold on to members long after their SVs have been replaced. But I've no idea why, so that doesn't really answer your question at all!

Corrected for you.

Other forums don't have Wideboy.

Or Dave Preston. I do keep trying to get other forums to take him but they just don't seem keen.

I'm sure one of the Furry forums would take him in that monkey suit.

Why is this forum the best?
People actually talk to you.
People are helpful, friendly, and welcoming.
People take the time to get to know the newcomers.

Unlike certain other forums i'm a member of...Who's regulars only seem to want to know the other regulars, or the female members....Nuff said.

If I joined another forum I'd have to learn how to put a different model of motorbike back together and I'm just not sure I'm ready for that kind of investment of time...

And we meet face to face in the real world. We share tea and cake.

This is great. Mostly.

Other times... let's just say that mankinis should be banned. And monkey onesies. And probably sparkly bikinis too.

How many of those were you responsible for LPH?

Littlepeahead

None! Wasn't my fault it rained. And it looked much better on Hong in Wales, he's got better legs than me.

1. Cos civic drivers are usually chavs and if you dont have the word vtec in the title, i imagine they arent bothered.

2. Sooo many civics have been modded, they prob dont know what the standard wheels look like

3. I find bikers tend to be much nicer people in general

Those are of course, just my opinion :)

Found a better, well more active, Civic Forum and at least got my question answered. Yes, they should fit. However now being told that putting new 16" rims on is a crime and need to put 18" rims on and get it lowered! Got to love the chavvage!

Oh BTW it's a 1.4. Now have a thread with several 1.4 Civics with massive low-profile wheels. FFS go buy a bike and get some real performance!

LPH, 20 posts before you bring it back to Bikini's and cake. Are you off your game at the moment?

otaylor38
16-01-14, 12:22 PM
Theyre failing then. Cos the 1.4 isnt even vtec, and why else would they buy a civic?

Theyd only kill themselves with a bike. Let em have 80bhp in a car and babble on about how fast it is. Its the only way theyll stay alive haha

Wanna buy a BMW that like Kit on Knight Rider turns its own lights on without the driver being anywhere near the car? Thus leaving the battery dead while you are away. Yeah thought not, just cost me £630 to fix that. No forum was going to be able to assist either.

Mark_h
16-01-14, 04:58 PM
I think mine gets woken up if anyone goes past with a Bluetooth phone. It then checks itself over for a while and then goes back to sleep. The up-shot is that it decides the battery is iffy and so won't let the fan go on full and won't let the rear screen heater work at all. In this weather this is not good news.

Bet there's some smug German chuckling away to himself about this. MAybe if I put even bigger wheels on the BMW it'd fix itself?

UnofficialBMW used to be the best forum in its day.

Im really amazed at that. I wouldnt expect that from any current manufacturer, let alone bmw of all people.

it is quite an old beemer tho (a 2000 w reg if I'm not mistaken), these sort of things do start to happen once vehicles get to a certain age.

Mark_h

Mine's an 08 5 series. Just tries to be too clever for it's own good!

Wideboy

All car manufacturers have electrical gremlins, BMW are probably one of the better manufactures that have the least.

Littlepeahead
16-01-14, 07:32 PM
As Chris says, my little roundabout is a 2000 reg but I'm very fond of it. It gets me the mile to the supermarket and into town to drop Mr LPH at the pub in comfort and it's a doddle to park.
