Ticking/Clicking engine noise

Hi all,

Have read many threads here and on the net about a ticking/clicking noise coming from the engine. My bike makes a ticking noise while running I think, not sure if its just the engine noise, but not sure if normal? Have listened to some clips from people asking the question, and I can never hear this ticking/clicking noise they talk about.

So I'm being rather paranoid here most likely, but what exactly does this noise sound like, and what causes it?

My bike runs with no problems, runs 100%...but thought to ask and as I mentioned, I'm probably being paranoid...:rolleyes:

Firstly, type of bike, year, mileage, when did this noise start. Anything else you think might be relevant to taking a guess at what's wrong.

Second, open your car bonnet while its running and listen to the noises it makes. If that doesn't bring on a bout of paranoia I'm not sure what will!

That being said, there are a million things which could cause a ticking noise of which I know little about so I'll leave it to the experts.

K7 SV650S, 24 000km. It really sounds like a normal engine to me...no loud pings or anything, just a hardly audible ticking? Hmm...must try get a sound clip...

It's an sv they tick.

I have had several folk turn up at my house and say listen to my sv, it ticks I think there's something wrong with it.
I listen, and reply yup, normal noises then.

Unless there is something actually wrong with it and its behaving peculiar assume that its normal.

I have a bike with a TL1000 engine in it, TL is affectionately named 'Ticks Loudly'.

I thought the same as you when I first got my SV. But after riding my brothers old TL I realised mine was perfectly fine. His sounded like an old Fiesta engine with all the ticking going on.
