Just thought I'd start a thread that I have seen on other car forums I'm a member of and think it's a great thread for ideas.

Little changes that make a big (or little) impact in your bike for little outlay

So rules are no more than £75, the cheaper the better, the easier the better

You get the gyst.

Not sure how many "cheap and cheerful" mods there are for bikes been fairly new but throw your ideas up.

Thanks

This is where I got mine from, 10x better than the original for wind protection.. and looks IMO! - http://www.mandp.co.uk/productinfo/563938/Bodywork/Screens---Faired-Motorcycles/Tech-7 and it's £39.99

Removal of steering damper from SV1000. Massive improvement, zero cost (assuming you already have a spanner.)
Checking your tyre pressures. Potentially massive improvement, zero cost (assuming you already have a pump and pressure gauge.)

Out of interest why does this make such a difference? ^

My damper was notchier than Wideboy's bedpost. Meant inconsistent steering effort and no feel. As soon as I took it off it made a massive difference and I could once again feel the front wheel going light and get some feedback in corners. Not had any tank slapper incidents to make me contemplate putting it back on but then I'm not a ham-fisted muppet.

Don't have a option for a sv1000 :( might sound daft but it the 650 fully faired the same as the 1000 fully faired? I wouldn't thought they would change the front bit at all? Just the lower?

Raptor 2 fairing, gives decent wind protection, only £40.....£50 if you add running lights and LED bulbs. It's been good to me so far.

Handguards, heated grips, scottoiler all probably below that mark or thereabouts.

Beyond that you're getting into "get what you pay for" territory.

Fixer peg in the toolkit worth it's weight in gold though.

On Pointy S fitting mirror spacers and/or GSF650 mirrors lets you actually see behind you instead of just an nice view of your elbows.

Seat re-padding cost me about £40.

Panniers from E-Bay cost £50 and are invaluable.

Water proof plug socket in my fairing cost roughly £15.

Paddock stand Bobbins and stand are also a great idea and with in that budget.

I fitted a Tutoro chain oiler (http://www.tutorochainoiler.com/index.php/store-mobile/oiler-auto-standard-detail) and love it.

A throttle rest (http://www.amazon.co.uk/MOTORBIKE-CRUISE-HANDLEBAR-THUMB-ATTACHMENT/dp/B003KSTXG6/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1390308404&sr=8-7&keywords=motorcycle+throttle+rest) also helps loads and is less than a tenner.

Nice brake and Clutch levers (http://shop.the2wheels.com/7-Clicks-GP-Levers-Adjustable-3D-SUZUKI-LE7-3D-SU.htm) also help with a day long ride due to increased comfort.

Basically I have turned my S model pointy into a V-Strom, but that cost a bit more than your £75! :smt026

An outfit in Surrey did a nice line in gel inserts.

Used performance exhaust.

one of the best things I ever did with my Street Triple R wa to get the suspension set-up for my weight, but as SV's are a little naff you can't really do that without swapping everything out, you maybe able to get a zx6 rear shock off ebay for less than £75.

My local upholsterer did it for me while I waited, this way I could adjust the foam inserts to suit before it was all sealed in. Well worth the effort of doing it.

Changed the normal naked bars and top triple to S triple and clipons.
I originally did it purely for aesthetics, but actually much prefer the riding position now.
£20 for the clipons and triple from the Org.
Made a new clock bracket from some scrap ally (free)
New headlight brackets from the 'Bay (tenner)

I'll see if I can find some photos I took at the time. If not, I'll take some on Friday.
To be honest, It was a fairly quick job, and could be neater, but I did it mid-summer and didn't want the bike to be off the road for any amount of time. I'll tidy it all up a bit better when I get round to the springtime maintenance jobs.
