Hi Guys.

I was thinking how much of a sv650 it would be possible to make in a clear material, to style it so that the internals would be visible.

You could of course make all of the fairings in a clear plastic.

But how many of the engine components could you more visible?

Could you replace the tank with one made in plexiglass?

Just a bit of a thought experiment.

Cheers

"Sorry mate, I didn't see you" would have a whole new meaning if you pulled that off.

Side covers easy, head covers possible, radiator no, cylinders no, inner crankcases no. Tank, possible, definitely in translucent maybe not optically clear though.

Expensive.

I've seen clear rocker covers on a US custom Harley I think, as well as a clear tank. I think that one was glass so it's not like you'd want to crash it, but you'd probably never have to ask if there was water in your fuel or if you had enough...

And Ive seen clear desmo covers on older bevel drive Ducatis. So you could see the valve gear wearing out as it happened.:D

My very first bike was a 1970 450 Mark III Desmo, black and chrome. Other issues prevented it from running long enough to wear out the valve gear!
I loved it when it was running though, as long as the road was smooth.

Sorry to post off topic.
Anyway, how would you be able to find it?
An area of strange reflections in the parking lot or garage?
Or does 'clear' mean invisible?

Not invisble at all. I would just like the styling to reflect the inner workings of the bike, so that you were driving on something that would look like a life sie mechanical X-ray if you will :)

In a world where we are beginning to develop see through metal (aluminium oxynitride) could you not theoretically build a whole motorcycle from see through material? Not for a while yet I'm sure, and at no minor cost. I can just see it one day in the future though. A car or bike made from fully transparent components created by some insanely rich bored inventor. Would be cool though, imagine seeing all the petrol flowing as it churns along.

Those 'spare' CDs would make good clutch plates.
